Thread regarding Shell Oil layoffs

Place your bets… is Wael still the CEO at the end of 2026?

New year predictions…?

  • Wael runs away
  • the board finally reins Wael in
  • Wael’s plans for more decimation of the company stop
  • We do an about face and start acquiring other businesses
  • We decide to only become a trading business like Vitol
  • Wael finally takes a bet

Place your bets!

Coming back to this for the slogan comment… we all failed. Given that I got 14 emails of all the leaders above me telling me their interpretation of play to win, I think it’s “play to win.” That or they finally realized we are losing the E&P game.

Which catchy slogan is most likely to be found in the next company strategy deck

Fewer flares, stronger shares.

‘26 we reduce what doesn’t produce

Drill less guess, find more yes

Exploration ends where discipline begins

We build value by drill or deal

‘26 Less Shares, more Cares

Drill the play or buy the pay

Dry hole, buy a whole company

Wish list vs bets

  1. IDT finally gets their comeuppance. We need to show our opex savings journey has not lost steam. For the love of all that is holy please lay waste to the target rich environment that is IDT. They are the worst.
  2. Purchase company producing over 300kbopd .
  3. Finish the divestments of downstream , chem , and RES… be done with it.
  4. Replace entire exploration group with technical talent from 2. purchase company. How anyone still has a job in that group is beyond me.
  5. Institute a plan to consolidate accountability to emerge from the distributed diluted matrix organization that delays decisions and obfuscates incompetence of DEs.
  6. Increase risk tolerance once step 6. is complete.
  7. Stop bashing high cost of employment countries if said countries actually generate piles of cash from in country revenue.
  8. Bring back Zwarte Piet
  9. New RTO Neighborhoods should be allowed to set up HOAs with rules about waste bin collection times and approved desk flair.
  10. Have a company wide contest to guess the next reorg org charts before they drop on the next change portal and do away with ceo awards
  11. Hodl bitcoin - diamond hands

Interesting enough there is so much more bloat in corporate IT to save $$$. That is why Wael is not done yet, he should see this cost centre absolutely doing nothing that adds value to.the business.

I was hoping he would get some big Deal with the Indian government after feeding so many families with giving out IT jobs. Sadly I think I am wrong.

I was expecting the EC announcing a big restructure just before Christmas as they usually do. Not sure why they waited.

The share buy backs have had no effect on the Shareprices. That part he is failing.

The C suite types have won. they have mastered the art of getting rich without any potential consequences or blame for not actually improving the companies they lead.

all they need to do is copy what their peer companies do and hire fall guys. wael is no exception. he has two moves. they are cut costs and buy back stock. nothing will change. in 2027 he will leave “voluntarily” right before the company begins to show drastic signs of decline for having no actual oil or gas to sell. he will get off blame free with a golden parachute, have a fancy going away party, and then proceed to do the same thing somewhere else

it is us little people who will suffer

  1. more lazy waste on share buy backs
  2. more packaging of assets in to separate organisations (like uk) ready for sale or reduction of employee benefits.
  3. Bigger bonuses for Wael.
  4. Reduction in payouts when people get fired.
  5. More pathetic videos by Wael.

he only knows one way.

I think acquisitions have to be on the table. Even if you consider trading to be the central function they're still going to need to own more assets if they want an "asset-backed" strategy.
