Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

Visual in the age of ISM

What is going on in your stores with Visual? From my understanding, there is only supposed to be one dedicated Visual person (the Captain) and they are to get visual support from FOH.

I wonder how this is working out. Holiday should be fun, cause none of the merchandisers and sales associates will want to climb ladders and hang red ba--s and garland (not that they should have to.)

Is everyone required to copy the directive exactly? That's what's going on in our division. They make it like that so anyone can do it, no talent required!

I have been with Macys doing visual and a visual manager for twenty years. It’s so upsetting seeing the store with no talent, fashion or inspiration for the customers

Those ginormous yellow "own your style" displays take up a lot of real estate- they help hide the fact Macy's has no merchandise on the floor.

Those obnoxious yellow Own Your Style walls and graphics are staying up? I keep wondering when they are going to change them out.

@nhc+1hyiiSUs don't forget the stupid wall mural that had to go up also that's now permanent, all year long 🙄

In my store, merchandisers are not doing anything sales related and their schedules are about the same - no nights whenever they work.

With ISM Cosmo has their own dedicated support/merchandising team.
Our Visual Captain recently quit. They are still running merchandisers as merchandising. Except for the associates that are either new or not in with the clique. They made such a big deal about merchandisers having to learn registers, opening credits and such for nothing.

Oh not true, there’s plenty of creativity! Sometimes you can hang the ornaments in the shape of a square or a circle! Or go crazy and change the amount from 3 to 5! And applying holiday vinyl by yourself while perched leaning with one foot on the rung! Sign me up!

When our support team got called back from Covid furlough 2 year’s ago we were expected to climb ladders to change all the cosmetic visual 9 parts every week. Then it was changing all the mannequins all in addition to merchandising, signing, floor moves, markdowns and unloading the truck. Throw in the fulfillment and make sure you keep smiling because we were the “special ones” that got called back. When they told us to climb 12 foot ladders to hang ba--s from the ceiling that was enough for me. After 30 years of service of which I could have gone for at least another 5 years to retirement, that was the last straw. Maybe that was the plan all along to get rid of us that had 6 weeks of vacation and a few other little perks. Sorry it ended that way but so glad to be not there anymore.
