Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

Only two ways to save this company

  1. New CEO and executives. New fresh young board of directors with vision and ambition.
  2. Being sold out

Paul missed so many great opportunities. Q collapse started from his time.

All the projects that someone mentioned as Paul’s failures were great ideas and from the tech point of view a huge success. Brew for instance was a first platform that people outside of QCOM could use to develop apps. Even Mediaflo at the end made money by selling the spectrum. Mirasol had this amazing potential but at the end it didn’t work. Every tech company has to have forward looking RD projects and sure some will fail. At least back then there were ideas. And most importantly when these projects failed no one was laid off. Paul always had some job somewhere for everyone. Of course he had issues but who doesn’t. At the end it was Murphy and co. that did him in.

@nga: Thanks for dredging up old memories. If you analyze each failure, the common denominator is "legacy leadership". Exec management rewards incompetent but long-timer by giving him/her the leadership. Fumble. Excuses follow. Initiative closed. Resources divested or deprecated.

Another reason is that Q lacks the marketing fire power and is held hostage to OEM's. Example, QCT basically designed the "walled garden" concept. But it needed Apple to commercialize it to success.

From the investors standpoint, Octane is the best replacement

Bring Hock Tan.
The guy transformed Broadcom from a POS to a massive company. It is not 3x+ QCOM market cap with less then half the number of employees.

Amon was made CEO because of 5G. Unfortunately 5G turned into a major failure. Beyond 5G he has neither new ideas nor vision. He should resign. Dare I say this? Bring Paul back.

It's kind of like and old PC that slows down from a fragmented drive, viruses, and malware. Q needs an upgrade. Or just buy a Mac.
