Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Why do you stay?

Since there are so many unhappy people here - and I am one of them - I'm wondering about your reasons for staying with XOM. My reason is simple, I'm waiting for severance. I would hate to leave even if I found a new job and find out that I did them a favor - saved them money that I lost out on. That is literally the only thing keeping me here right now.

I am searching for another job right now. Once I secure one or have a final interview I am just going to WFH for good. I am not going to quit I am not going to tell them anything. Going to start a new job call into EM meetings every once in a while and see how long it takes. Might even stop answer phone calls from my boss. Heck harder to track me down to fire me. If I move they will not be able to send certified mail to fire me.

Lol. EM has the cash to pay peoples salaries. What they don't have is the cash to keep paying the dividend. Getting rid of employees is going to do very little to bridge the gap between cash flow and covering all expenses plus dividend.

@1raw+16TxU6SS Why would ExxonMobil want to pay the severance package when The Performance Assessment worked so well to “lay-off” without paying so much? Australia is unique as they have unions similar to Europe. Rest of the region, they will PIP you out! Since the borrowed money is almost gone.. will DW issue more bonds to pay us? I doubt...

@ans+16TxU6SS Standard Oil will still survive so long as BP and Chevron are still alive.

I’m in my late 50’s and need 4 more years for retirement. So basically, I’m screwed. Is there going to be an Exxon in 4 years? Is this going to end up Enron Part II, minus the criminal behavior?

In he meantime, I’m praying for miracle, that is, some sort of bridging to retirement.

I don’t think I’m going to last long. My Supervisor hates me, but then again, hates everyone in their resposibility.

Why aren’t the people that can retire, retiring? Most of them want to put another kid through college. That means the rest of us will lose their job that they desperately need, for a want not a need.

@nfg+16TxU6SS Do you live under a rock. They paied those on PIP to take a PIL instead and are paying out 10 weeks plus 2 weeks per year in Australia towards voluntary layoffs.

Now in the US they may decide to just cut (give everyone affected 60 day notice and that’s it) but that would be a PR nightmare.

My guess is Australia is a test to see if they get the numbers they predicted and if so they’ll use the same system here.

Waiting for the package of course. I have seen too many useless boys and girls raking it in, I'm going to stick around and see what comes of it. Maximize value,, this is what has been drilled to us, this is what I practice. I have my plan B in place of course.

Exxon will never pay people to leave so that is not a good reason to stay. If the work is not interesting and the environment is hostile, get your resume updated and start looking at the job market. See what you need to beef up on to compete.

Opt out to seek employment, disheartened to see how the company has become.
Inhumane
Unethical
Hypocrisy
Fake

I’m ranked well and have a good (current) boss. Prepared to leave tomorrow if necessary regardless because we all know that a good situation can flip in an instant with the wrong “leadership”.

Complacency. Getting a new job is a lot of work. Plus in Houston it can be hard to find a job paying similarly that isn't in O&G and going through the same struggles. So if you don't want to move or take a pay cut (even with reduced benefits) you roll the dice and see what happens.

Me too! I’m waiting for the severance..don’t want to leave regretting not staying a couple more months for the jackpot. And we are paid monthly to wait.. Why not.. the well is drying up soon and they will have no choice to offer us the package..

I have been with the company for 5 years and am highly ranked. It pains me to see the company like this. I want to see Standard Oil survive and thrive. We used to be a great company. I think a lot of the complaints are a good-faith last-ditch attempt to get the management’s attention.
