I heard potentially thousands of layoffs.

@qq Target let go 1,800+ last fall without offering early retirement. MDT not doing it Doesn’t indicate anything.
@qj Are you sure? All the incompetent leadership went along with Sean's grand plan sometime back. Where is Sean now?
The one reason that a vs or verp may not be offered is that they want to control who leaves. Again don’t expect it be in numbers mentioned here
@qj and there was no verp offer this year, which tends to always come before the truly big waves. this will be the annual trim, nowhere close to 10% of the company
@q1 30% of the workforce is destabilizing. Hard to imagine they would cut that deeply when the company is not in dire financial straights.
I heard 20-30K job cuts
I’m already doing the work of 2 people. I guess Medtronic thinks that we don’t need to sleep.
Praying their will only be one rif at the #1 position.
@nf
You are correct. Notice when or if your OU/Team/department has retirements and people voluntary leaving. This could increase your chances of NOT being RIF'd. Downside is no one is being replaced, so the work load is shared by those left. Best of luck to all
The decision had been made weeks ago. The criteria is 10% reduction per department. Many leaders use the bell curve to determine who to RIF. Good luck!
@m2
I know people who leave and NONE ever mentions where there going. My guess they don't want deadwood following them to a new place.
To those that moved on, take care of us for new opportunities at your companies. We’re good people.
I'm curious to see how many jobs will be created at the Hyderabad India facility after the big RIF. Medtronic was once a great American company.
Does anyone know how the decisions will be made? Is there a selection criteria?
Waiting to see how maybe of the Surgical old guard survives, while hard working folks get the axe.
@h8 For those that survive next week, the relief will probably be short lived. There will probably be more reductions soon after. Medtronic is just too big and inefficient.
Good news for next week - Friday will be the typical "all clear" message for those surviving the RIF's...mark it down.
Why are workers the ones get punished? Sure senior leaders will probably get RIF but they have really nice severance packages.
@e1 ... Correct, IMHO
Will begin on Monday and continue thru Thursday with breaks in between. I'm witness the big ones, HR is over loaded and needs a breather in between rounds.
God bless us all.
@dw if it is like years past, layoffs will occur through Thursday
@dw they don't give 'all clears' anymore
I think the Business Update meetings will go out on Tuesday. So the goal is for everything to go down on Tuesday. An all clear will be given by Wednesday EOD.
Which OU are you in?
so you're telling me there's a chance?
@dk Yes! You have no control, make it work for you!
Whatever happens for you, I hope you have the best landing possible.
Project put on hold. No new projects assigned. Personal productivity near zero. Not looking good for me.
Or maybe it is looking great. Maybe the temporary discomfort of a layoff is the portal that leads to new opportunities, fun adventures, and more impact for good somewhere else. I think I am about to find out.
I heard it will be a blood bath. My director related the proverbial: If everyone were in a room, look at your coworker to the left and then to the right. One of them will be gone.
a couple hundred global wide is my guess.
@aq Total employees are ~90k. I don’t believe “tens of thousands”
Those are rookie numbers. I heard tens of thousands
I heard there are a ton of layoffs coming to G2 after they just aquired or merged with another company. Be on the look out!
