What is there to consider? There is ZERO demand right now for new commercial aircraft. What are the remaining 90% of employees even going to do here?

"Hope this is fake news"
@onn We can expect a 30% reduction to the workforce
In the near term. Expect that to last 24 months.

This is not surprising at all. History at Boeing has taught us from time and time again that what follows voluntary layoffs are involuntary layoffs. If enough employees take the voluntary layoff package, then that would reduce the need for involuntary layoffs and the cuts would not go as deep. Though, in a time of a recession (sort of like now), it is a trend that people are unwilling to retire and decide to work longer for whatever reason.

Well, Boeing has just a little over 70,000 employees in WA. A reduction of 10% would bring the workforce back to around 60,000. Data shows that amount of employees (60,000) in Boeing was last seen in 2006. So, the 1st round of cuts would go back atleast 14 years.

@nei Oh I would say that’s about 17 years back. Same thing happened on 9/11. Same thing in 96. Yeah feller I’d say a good 16-17 years back.
