Thread regarding Occidental Petroleum Corp. layoffs

Good time to upgrade staff

Even after Covid the oil business will never be the same as it was pre-Covid as there were many buyouts, mergers, vsp, retirements, and layoffs. So many people are out of work and available that Oxy could have their pick of candidates. Actually, it might be a good time for Oxy to upgrade their staff by cutting the bottom percent, and replacing them with good workers.

I don’t believe Oxy will take advantage of that. Perhaps I’m wrong?

It is a good time to reduce staff and reorganize functionally without replacing positions that are not needed. Critical technical skilled positioned should be upgraded.

Weak leaders surround themselves with yes-people. Strong leaders surround themselves with differing opinions and make the best decisions they can while appreciating the perspectives of those they surrounded themselves with.

I doubt they will. Oxy doesn’t want top performers. They just want followers of fear.
The Mgt is intimidated by successful people.
Better companies will attract any talent remaining at Oxy.

You got it right. One year you a shining star with the top rating and bonus. Next year with a different boss you are just average even though your performance is the same. There needs to be some quantification as to the hard value an employee provides and not the soft value like that “proactive “ and “creative” c-ap they were spewing a few years ago.

The longer I work the more I realize that your performance, and its perception, is largely determined by your boss. I've also come to realize that there are significantly more bad supervisors than there are bad employees.

7vBt, why so angry? Or maybe worried OP's suggestion might leave you unemployed?

I have a better idea OP. Since you know how to staff an oil company, why don't you start your own company to prove it. You can staff it with your "pick of candidates."

I don't believe you will take advantage of that. Perhaps I'm wrong?
