Thread regarding Boeing Co. layoffs

If you were offered a VLO and don't take it, you'll be getting an ILO down the road

Consider the VLO your unofficial notice. It's Boeing's way of letting you know your time is coming up.

They offer VLO’s in 2017 when there weren’t any ILO’s I believe.

They’re not laying off a ton of people....or there’s not “am I gone with 10 yrs of seniority?” Things can change, but as of now....those with probably 2-4 yrs are at risk. Just my opinion and I’m wrong a lot. But percentage wise....what they announced today, it’s not deep as of right now.

Don’t listen to the “if you don’t have 8...10...12 yrs in your doomed!” The company cannot sustain off that kind of labor loss.

Yes it’ll take time for the industry to recover. But that deep a cut would indicate 20%-30% cuts IMO.

Let the b–ching and sh– talking commence....just trying to be somewhat optimistic.

OP is an id–t and doesn't even work for the big BA. They always offer VLOs first to everyone eligible even in case of marginal layoff plans. It's logical to let people f— off who want out before forcibly kicking out people most of who actually want to stay.

Eligibility Criteria
The VLO program has specific eligibility requirements and selection criteria. To be eligible for the program, an employee must have at least one full year of service with the company as of the date VLO invitations are sent; be part of an identified surplus population approved for the VLO program; and satisfy all of the eligibility conditions specified by the company, the VLO steering team, and the applicable layoff benefit plan in which the employee participates.

You can request VLO , you don't have to be offered. Everyone who ask is being accepted until the goal is reached.

@flu+14Iyckbv

Everyone on those programs? I thought they went out by job code not program, so which is it sparky?

The fact is that a surplus determination was made for certain job codes. VLOs were sent to those job codes.

ILO layoffs will come from those job codes and no others. Not everyone who got a VLO will get an ILO. But everyone who gets an ILO will have gotten a VLO previously.

If you feel left out and did not get an ILO in may, this will not be the only round.

Everyone has been offered VLO in the 737 max , 787 and 777 programs. EVERYONE so stop trying to scare people. There is also pay cuts coming for 787 program, The union has agreed to a 15% pay cut to keep 787 in WA state. SC will get the bad news today.

@mvk+14Iyckbv hahaha still not the OP and you are illiterate since you did not read my post. I mention union and non union are different.

They do go by job code, but they don't send them to job codes that are not "surplus". So, if you got a VLO offer, you are "surplus".

Therefore the same job codes will get ILOs. For non union, that means totuming, but you will be targeted.

Haha nice try new guy! OP is a new hire. It goes by seniority. If a job code was offered the VLO it doesn’t mean that entire job code will get let go down the road with IVO. It starts from the bottom up.

@kwe+14Iyckbv I'm not the OP but I have worked for 4 companies and my experience at 3 of them would make the statement true. If you get a VLO, and ILO is next. Unless of course you have high seniority in a union.

Now, what makes this less possible is that the VLO was sent out to 40 to 45% of the company. They may get that deep, but not here in the first round in May.

If you did get a VLO, it would not be your worst idea to test the waters in the job market.
