What happens to engineers that have less than a year of seniority? Is there anything in the contract that protects new hires with less than a year in? I am being serious, not a wise a–.

What a bunch of jerks posting on here, I Guess they need to act all snide and tough behind their anonymity. New hires are protected in some areas, which is insane because many really need to go, but it depends on your team. I echo the comment of asking your boss, they can tell u the facts. Best of luck - it never hurts to update your resume and start poking around. A lot of places pay engineers better than Boeing. If u get ILO you get 60 days notice, that is a couple months to find at least a stop gap. Hoping for the best. Take care all.
@mnu+14JUFYFA and you are cheap to hire elsewhere. But you do have the Boeing IAM stink on you, so if you can overcome that, you will do fine.
Quite simple, really. New Hires become New Fires. Look at it this way, if you get axed quickly, you’ll have a head start on looking for your next job.
@phy. Sounds like resentment between Boomers and Millennials. Even though it's not my fight (Gen X), I did want to say that the country started going down while Boomers were in steering wheel. And just maybe...the reason you two can't get along is that you two are very similar. After, one raised to be just like the other. If you are 10 years younger than me and can't retire, then it's your fault. New concept...SAVE FOR A RAINY DAY...unbelievable how no one does this!
The new hire engineers will get enrolled in Boeing’s “transitioning” class so they can become whatever gender they wish, continue to draw wieners on their computers and contradict each other with 28 revs on a goddamn NC and I then have to explain it to them like a 3 year old bc none have worked on a goddamn plane before and think everything is like the cartoon looking plane on the computer that you can just install that rivet with a 1/5 an inch of clearance to get your tool in that sumbitch.
Get up, get off your butt and come out to the friggin plane so daddy can show you how the puzzle won’t go together like you think and stop arguing about it or I’ll slap you.
If your being serious the answer is there’s nothing that protects anyone
Occasionally managers are allowed to retain a small amount of people for 6 months if they have a special skill set but that’s not always allowed. It would be a question for your manager.
Other than that it’s strictly based off seniority. That’s for IAM union members at least. For SPEEA I’m not sure if it’s the same. Again it would be a question for your manager.
