Cisco is still number 1 networking company to get it after college or MS, play and build networks in lab, learn networking hand-ons and play with different technologies end to end.

If you want to learn basic and intermediate networking configuration there are courses and simulation systems which will help build those skills while you work somewhere where your skills will grow, not atrophy.

IT had endless problems operating Cisco gear and software spent its time trying to fix bugs. Few software engineers could actually configure a significant network from Engineer 1 to Principal Engineer and even connecting the management Ethernet and console ports to a switch and terminal server at the top of a rack in a development lab was beyond many.

Can anyone let me know another company in Bay Area? Forget the politics and bad managers.

Many of my colleagues took networking training courses and online documentation to learn few dozen technologies! No other company can offer this opportunity.

This is based on my experience working at multiple big tech companies in Bay Area.

@vd yep. and invested the money into something that will actually make money in the long term instead of just lurching from quarter to quarter saying the right buzzwords to hype up immediately before earnings call and then tank afterwards.

@mm In 2023 I would have agreed with you, but not in this hiring market.

Profit and margin improvement through cost cutting, not through innovation and efficiency. Think about that before dropping $100 a share.

Periodically I come back here just to say that since I quit Cisco my income has gone up 4x.

You are likely underpaid and Cisco knows it.

Update the resume and gtfo

Cisco is a mean-spirited, cut-throat company obsessed with cost cutting and nickel and diming everyone. FFS not even complementary soda for hard working employees at a company that makes billions. No annual raises. Mean and penny pinching. Politics and back stabbing is everywhere. Be warned, working there.

Cisco is definitely a good place to work in networking, get good in-person training and learn networking hands on !

Based on my experience in Cisco… you need to join a group with good leadership and culture in engineering. Very few left in San Jose after years of outsourcing and brining in contractors with low quality skills.

Cisco paid the price by not paying market price for top engineers in the Bay Area. They paid only 75% of market price. This is a known fact. !

Many mangers lack good judgement and critical thinking.

Person who wrote the previous comment may be working in a good group with good leadership.

We need an employee union to make things better. Without union, top mafia in the company will take all the profits, RSUs and give the breadcrumbs for the bottom.

Stop outsourcing and Globalization B S.

You chat sh-t mate ! Cisco has given me and many of my friends and colleagues inside and outside of Cisco a very decent career. Its provided me with two healthy children who are adults and I have never been out of work since 1999.

You need to stop trolling and get a grip on reality.

Cisco remain the backbone of most core infrastructures and companies world wide.
