Thread regarding GlobalFoundries layoffs

New Building during layoffs

I see the construction contractor signs remain. GlobalFoundries has money for buildings but layoffs continue. This is NOT an American-owned company so expect no loyalty. How many of the “local people” promised to be hired in the expansion of 2011 still work in Malta? I bet those NYS tax breaks are still promises kept! Real people, real lives! When is the media going to get out of the pocket of GlobalFoundries and start telling the truth?! What kind of company will treat you best?

Younger generations need to get a grip on reality. As much as they demand a company to “represent their values,” there are no values at corporations and large business. They are here to make money and pay salaries to the drones who keep them moving forward.

Now go sip on your mead and IPA’s, and enjoy your board games while grooming a cat, lowering your testosterone. Let the big boys and girls show you how it is done.

For what they pay me, I can easily tolerate what drives you millenials into a crying tantrum. Now run, run to social media to express your outrage and sadness!

It’s not the same. Sure same elements exist at other places but no where near the same level, magnitude and frequency that occurs at Globalfoundries. These bad elements are rampant and have infected nearly every aspect of work life at Globalfoundries. And it’s has coalesced and crystallized into the most extreme toxic work environment in all of the semiconductor industry. It’s well known throughout industry. Globalfoundries has a reputation. Comparing to other places is like comparing a drip from a facet to a fire hose trying to put out a 5 alarm blaze.

And if you can’t see that in 32 years - then you gotta pull your head out of your a-s. It’s been up there far too long.

The previous large company I worked for never said they are doing great and then had layoffs for cost cutting. They'd be saying for a long time how bad they are doing and how we need to improve cost and how our stock is down and they'd report bad numbers at earnings calls

I am guessing you have never worked anywhere else and Globalfoundries is your first and only job.

No it’s not the same at other places. Not even remotely close. Whoever told you this is a mo--n.

To keep abreast of clowns looking for something to whine about. Do you think all these issues are exclusive to Global alone? Try getting another job, it will be the same anywhere you go, just different people.

I was let go last week. I was given a total of 6 full months of pay, seven months of benefits, bonus and a 5k payout on my long term unvested RSU. I’ve already tabled one job offer. Companies are still hiring. I have the luxury of taking my time and being a bit picky now. I get paid for the next 6 months and I don’t have to go to GF anymore. Over 350 people lost their jobs but that also means that they will take 350 available jobs in the market. The next round of layoffs at global will most likely be at the height of the forecasted downturn. Hopefully there are still some jobs left and the severance is nice. Let me put it this way, if your JL 1-9 with 4 years or less of service, you're only getting 4 weeks of severance per the plan. Hopefully they still give you guys the 90 day non working notice period. But then your looking at a max severance of 16 weeks. Most of the people I was laid off with were experienced people with many years at GF. We got the max payout. It’s 2 weeks per year for every year after 4 years. Only 4 weeks for the first 4 weeks of service.

The people defending GF and gloating they “survived” ask yourself if less people is really better for a company already poorly positioned for the future. Where will the additional operating cost cuts come from for 2023? They surely didn’t save 200 million a year by cutting 350 people this round. More to come for sure. As far as people complaining about GF, we have a every right to.

1rud+1kiF9Llw You’re doing fine, until you’re not. 368 people got f’d over this past week. If you are still at GF chances are you’re sitting in the cheap seats and will be expendable when the time comes. If you’re so happy and doing fine, why are you in here?

Let us be prepared for next layoff. There is no reason why it will not come in few months. Attrition of >20% is not enough for numbers to look good.

So which category are you in? Still working at Global? Or did you take your brilliance to a new company, but are still crying about GF hurting your feelings? Are you an entry level tech? Local? This is your first job, isn't it. The rest of us will be fine, worry about your own a-s.

Life at GF follows Charles Darwin’s rules of natural selection, survival of the fittest. The fittest, namely those with technical skills, higher IQ , intellect and qualifications will survive by finding jobs with other companies and thriving with their new employers. Those compensating the lack of above qualities, who tend to create a false sense of job security through GF way of boot licking the incompetent manager will go where dinosaurs went or if lucky find jobs at wall mart check outs , working along with their GF managers.

I am good in licking so not in rush. I will stay as long as GF is not bankrupt.

I trusted GF and resulted in my layoff. I was one of these people who think - sun will never come if you bury your head in sand.
Do not trust GF my friends. Step out before it is late.

The layoffs are over. Those who are left at GF will go back to the day to day, being miserable, talking cr-p. They will now complain about raises and promotions being pushed out to July. They will continue to have to watch their break times, fill out useless glint surveys and have no personal development at Gf. They will roll their eyes at the bonuses to come. They will still swallow the lies their managers tell them.
One thing is certain, they will come running back here back toward the end of Q2 when more layoffs will occur. They will be scared to lose a job they actually hate.

I know how difficult it is to accept the facts. I was in same mode until I was laid off last week. While I appreciate the posts about highlighting facts and truths, I see reason why there are people who believe that GF is workable plane. One reason could be simple they do not see the immediate need to switch job unless fired or GF bankruptcy. Usually these are less than 2 years experienced employees. Anyone other than they may group should not have a reason to stay unless there is personal need or compulsion.
It is experienced group that has suffered most in GF.

Actually I find that a lot these posts have a lot of merit and truth to them. Sure there is colorful language sometimes (which you are right adds a bit of entertainment). But most posts seem to have accurate info to them. Some even has kernels of truth info before it’s been publicly disclosed. That’s why I come to read them

Great story pal, it must be difficult being the only experienced person at GF. Try a different thread next time.

This is really unfortunate. Being one of the experienced GF employees I can say that we could not get the correct picture of company due to dubious leadership. We were kept in dark during 14nm development which failed and luckily Samsung came to our rescue, we failed 7nm development and resulted in massive layoff, we messed up fdx and resulted in massive cost to GF and now failed in overall strategy and resulted in round 1 layoff.
Issue is that we keep getting blindsided by leadership either by ebitda bull sh-t , feature rich BS or something else.
I do not see even a light at the end of tunnel if current strategy fail which is already breaking us .. is not accepted. This will lead to leadership clean up and May be sell of GF but this is really need of the hour. Let us not get blindsided now as we are at cliff.
I am already interviewing and will be gone soon but wanted to send this now to all fellow colleagues to not be in dark and comfortable. Ship is sinking. Run away if you can.

I get enjoyment out of reading posts from non GF people, or self entitled disgruntled drones. That's what I'm doing here. For the past month we've been treated to all kinds of propaganda or rants by drones wishing demise to the place that pays us. It's hilarious, but pathetic at the same time. What percent of these post do you honestly think have merit, or truth to them, 10%? That's why it's so enjoyable, that people actually take them seriously. Merry Christmas and best for the New Year!
