Things are broken beyond repair when this is the only thing we have to keep us going as employees.

Maybe more companies can take look at the Universities around the country that are going with full-time online courses for the remaining semester. Looks like they have the infrastructure and
logistics figured out.
Oxy's network and infrastructure is what you get when you try to be lowest cost on everything. They're 10 years behind everyone else, and somehow they seem to take pride in it. I'm legacy APC working in IT until my release date, and it feels like we're trading in a Mercedes for a Ford Pinto, and Oxy's really happy and proud about that. I don't get it at all. Anadarko wasn't perfect, but we were always pushing things forward, and we were so advanced compared to Oxy. I doubt there are many legacy Oxy folks on this site, because they still like to use thelayoff.fax version!
The way it looks is show up until someone in the building comes down with the c-ap. Then they will scrub down the building and send thousands home with the potential of having the virus. I probably have it by now anyway after coming to work with thousands of people from all over the world each day. Thousands come in each day to work, and then thousands go out into the communities after work.
@mkd+13XaEik6. Yes age discrimination is alive and well in this industry.
@1gcp- I've only been working at Oxy a little over a year, and I echo your opinion of Oxy IT. Their "Rube Goldberg" network is highly unstable and slow as molasses. I cringe at the thought of everyone trying to remotely connect to it.
What's funny is Anadarko could handle it just fine. In Hurricane Harvey and several other events, everyone (who wasn't severely impacted by the flooding) worked from home just fine, with no issues. Oxy's IT department is so woefully behind, it's comical. I'll bet the DMV has better IT capabilities than Oxy.
From everything I have heard the older folks are at the most risk. I would say at least let 60 and over do it. It will be interesting to see how IT stands up. To have so many at home could be a drain. This at least is a good time to see if we can handle the load.
Just do it. I’ll never forget waiting around for my employer to release us to go home when I worked downtown on 9-11 but executives left hours earlier. You only get one life. You can get another job.
The name calling is really unnecessary.
