Crazy how little left their truly is. I remember when I worked at my Sears they announced ours closing in October 2018 it was quite a day. I remember worked that day in the morning, than I hear the store manager call the assistant manager. They announcing on the PA mandatory meeting for everyone in the morning rally. Since I knew about this site I already had a very good idea of what was going on. The big rumors of the next big closures that were going to happen.

Store manager was crying in tears yet I was so happy inside that it was finally over. I warned so many of my co workers to start searching for other jobs that this store was going to go under in matter of time. Sadly enough the majority went back to other retail stores. Just shocks me how little bit of stores that are actually left.

To answer your question, I don't Know how many stores are missing from Sears' website, but it certainly is not reliable. One method to find stores in a state, is to google "Sears Hawaii". Then you would see all the stores, (including the small formats) come up. Occasionally, they still list closed stores this way, but when I see that, I flag it to google as
"permanently closed", and they usually remove it within about 1 Week. But I assure you, both Kailua-Kona's and Honolulu's small stores are open and not currently liquidating. In fact the former (the one you left out) has postings on their FB page as of yesterday. I dont foresee either of them closing any Time soon, as they are on separate islands, and both serve a niche market on their respective islands.
Also, they are obviously more Cost-effective to run, in terms of overhead, than a massive, full-line Sears.
There are also 2 American Freight stores in HI, but I am not counting those as they are no longer affiliated in any remote way, with Sears.

I did not know about this store because Sears does not list it at https://www.sears.com/stores/hawaii.html (and never has listed it, to my knowledge). How many other such stores are missing from the Store Locator?

I'm sorry, but this is not accurate. There is the appliance store in Honolulu (Oahu Island), yes, but there is also another small format Sears in Kailua-Kona (on Hawaii Island). This is the fb page of the latter:

https://www.facebook.com/SearsHASKailuaKonaHI/

So there will be 2 small format Sears left in that state. The latter is alluded to in this article, although they seem unaware of the former:

https://mauinow.com/2021/09/17/breaking-sears-at-queen-kaahumanu-on-maui-officially-closing-november-14/

The addresses of the 2 stores are:
1450 Ala Moana Blvd, Honolulu, HI 96814
74-5583 Luhia St, Kailua-Kona, HI 96740

Both are currently open and not liquidating.

I know a Di-k’s Sporting Goods that used to be The Great Indoors. Does that count as a Sears, too?

@mhw+1cSmeNhq The Philly PA store is listed on the Sears Hometown website, as a Sears Hometown store, not Harbor Freight. So it is a small format Sears, whether you like it to be or not.

American Freight has absolutely no connection to Sears. Sears Outlets had been spun off before they went under the American Freight banner. Let’s stop this foolishness. I can’t believe how desperate some people are to do mental gymnastics to make Sears and Kmart “live on” for their delusional obsession. It’s over. Move on.

I can’t imagine all the disappointed mothers who had big dreams for their children… and here they are arguing if an American Freight counts as a Sears store.

The store in Philly, whether it was American freight, or my mother's freight, has no bearing on anything. It IS a Sears (of some format or the other), so it still qualifies.

There was another post with a list of remaining non-closing Kmarts, which seems to have disappeared. That is where someone requested this list of Sears stores. The list of Kmarts is pretty small, so I'll just put it here:

California(1): Grass Valley
Florida(2): Key West, Miami
Guam(1)
Michigan(1): Marshall
Montana(1): Hamilton
New Jersey(2): Avanel, Westwood
New York(3): Bridghampton, Bronx, Bronx
Puerto Rico(1): San Juan - Hato Rey
Virgin Islands(4): St Croix, St Croix, St Thomas, St Thomas

Total 16, 10 in US states and 6 in overseas colonies

There are inaccuracies on the list of stores that Sears has. I know that Marysville Wa and Longview Wa are closed. I believe Cottage Grove Or is closed as well. I’m not going to waste my time researching the rest of the states. Also, some of the Hometown Stores are being run my corporate. Why? Because Sears forces owner into a corner and they have to surrender.HTS is a fraud and they lie to their owners and perspective owners.

Frederick MD Sears store has been nearly empty for more than 1 year.

The Sears at Franklin (Philadelphia) Mills is an American Freight so that barely qualifies.

The Hometown stores used to be included in the Sears.com store locator, but were taken off a couple of months ago. I don't know why. When they were still there, they did not always agree with the list at SearsHometownStores.com .

Regardless of inventory levels, if the store is open, it counts. And as for being franchised, that makes zero difference in store counts. When you go to your Wendys, Burger King, Mcdonalds, Subway, Marriott, Hilton, whatever, it is probably franchised. It STILL is included in store (or restaurant/hotel) counts.

Here is the link to Sears Hometown, small-format stores. I am listing the counts by state, as per this link:

https://www.searshometownstores.com/store-list

AL 6
AZ 7
AR 22 (WOW!)
CA 25 (Wow, but it is the biggest population state.)
CO 11
DE 2
FL 9
GA 14 (Much smaller state than FL, above, yet 5 more stores. Go figure.)
ID 3
IL 15 (Birthplace of Sears will still have some small Sears.)
IN 7
IA 9
KS 11
KY 5
LA 5
ME 2
MD 1
MA 1
MI 9
MN 7
MS 11
MO 10
MT 5 (Also, oddly, this state is home to the most weirdly and randomly located Kmart possible, LOL)
NE 5
NV 5 (Gotta take a break from Playing, occasionally.)
NJ 1
NM 5
NY 4 (Incidentally, all are far upstate)
NC 9
OH 6
OK 8
OR 7
PA 5 (Including 1 in Philly! This seems to Buck the trend of these mostly being in more rural areas.)
SC 6
SD 1
TN 2
TX 27 (Well everything is bigger in TX, and all that.)
UT 1
VT 3 (Impressive for 1 of the tiniest states)
VA 1
WA 13 (Including Tukwila, oddly, which has a regular Sears. Someone explain that to me).
WV 2
WI 15
WY 3 (Smallest state in the union, decently represented).

Now, I could of course have miscounted or miscalculated, but the site is there for anyone to look at. 1 Day, I might have to make a map of all the locations. But my (admittedly poor) math, it appears we have 326 total. This link seems to be accurate, because it reflects the new store opening in Spearfish SD, while it has removed the recently closed one in Williston ND. So there appear to be (as far as small format Sears), 334 total. That would be 326 Hometowns, plus 8 other small format Sears, that OP referred to above. You're welcome.
This list-making project, is such a fun skill to have. I should do it more often. 😉🤔🤗 Not to be braggadocios, but I think I'm pretty good at it.

Can't believe the Burbank Sears is still open. The place is a dive.

This is missing the over 100 Sears Hometown, small-format stores. You don't have to count them if you don't want to, but they still do exist. So there are far more than 8 small-format Sears, just for the record.
