Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Layoffs & Burnout Workplace Post

Did anyone else see the Workplace post from a Finance Houston colleague who has been laid off? While writing such a post on Workplace might not have been the best move, what he described about the constant stress, anxiety & depression caused by the never ending reorgs & layoffs is very relatable. I hope someone checks up on our colleague to ensure his well being. It was a rather sad post and sadder still that only one person had the courage to post a response offering encouragement. I am ashamed to acknowledge that I didn’t want to stick my neck out. This is the fear-filled culture that we have created.

Wow what happened to the good old days, hard work, occasional laugh, occasional beer and 60+hrs a week. Never heard the complaining heard from these youngsters.....guess mommy told them they could be anything they wanted without working for it.

Morale mor-schmalle. I'm happy to have a job that pays well with good benefits in today's environment. We have always had routine layoffs. What's so special now? People doing the "bare minimum" or in many cases less than the bare minimum is creating the exact conditions that you are talking about

The culture at Chevron is a disaster under MW. Morale is the lowest its been in years. There is no point in putting in more than the bare minimum. The constant layoffs cause so much anxiety and issues company wide. If they want to increase productivity and profits let's maybe consider treating employees right and stop the fear. Boeing culture of cost cutting and only looking at shareholder value has really worked out for them so I guess management wants to follow their lead.

Why announce early?

I’ve been around for 34 years and still here despite my occasional outspokenness on management and our many silly work procedures over the years. I’m getting ready to announce my own retirement next year for April 1, a befitting way to celebrate Fools Day… not me, but the ship of fools I’m leaving behind.

Poor guy. Finance is going through the same now in my BU. I feel for those poor bean counters.

Has anyone heard from the Houston Finance colleague. Is he ok?

Really? I’ll have to find that little gem again.

BTW, the irony of this description about LJ is beyond compare:

“He is a seasoned business development and diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) leader within the Oil & Gas industry.”

They forgot to add: “who did nothing but post divisive, self-serving cr4p!” What a joke that man was!

I can’t remember that employee’s post exactly, but I remember thinking at the time that he had real guts.

Unfortunately when you barely survive a layoff you likely are not in a good job for you. This sets you up to be laid off in the next round. Kinda lame but its what it is.
