Ways to Reduce Your Admin Expense

  1. Offer early retirement. Your oldest employees with the most tenure will have the highest salary points. Reduce that population and you will reduce admin expense. Classic Corporate Move to hide Ageism Discrimination
  2. Reorg to move staff from under management with the financial criteria you are seeking (high pay and tenure) so that they leave on their own accord. Classic Corporate Move to avoid having to pay severance while reducing your admin expense

Hmmm. Sounds like CareFirst has read the playbook on how to reduce admin expense by sacrificing the numbers. Employees are just numbers anyway, right?

When HR sits with you and says "This has nothing to do with your age" know then it has everything to do with it

@mf In the 2019 layoff, CF mixed in younger employees with the order tenured employees to balance the age average to avoid potential age discrimination claims. Also a proportionate racial mix was figured in.

Agree the ELT is very top heavy. As an SLT member, I even wonder how some of my long tenured peers remain given lack of meaningful contributions but they are good at schmoozing.

This has always been CF's playbook. They reduce admin by reorg/eliminating positions/layoffs. Then they hire all these outside, super expensive consultants who will study the organization and make recommendations. Start hiring upper level positions and get super top heavy. Reorg again and again, trying to get it right, then oops, need to reduce admin costs........cycle restarts. Oh, they will also talk about outsourcing IT. Nothing changes.

They are currently severing people. The brain trust called the ELT can’t figure out how to offer the early retirements, gotta hold more meetings about the meetings about the meetings.

Village Id--ts.

Here's an even better way to lower admin costs......eliminate overpaid upper management/VP's that provide little to no value to the company. We are so top heavy in this organization, that it borders on ridiculous.

Associates as far back as 2019/2020 were waiting for early retirement packages that were never offered or never came...unless you were being forced to retire. If a position was eliminated, then severance was offered. This happened to some folks who were pushed out that had tenure of 40, 42, 45+ years with the company. So clearly ageism was definitely a factor in how CF handled older tenured associates.
