Former Red Badge.
Toxic work environment like a high school. Expected to come in on my days off to “assist with business needs”. Couldn’t get a full weekend off because we always had something going on. Always got more closings than “outline in the Manager scheduling”. Unfair scheduling by store manager and gave more opportunity to other incompetent managers who kissed their behind and threw their peers under the bus.
DO NOT WASTE your time trying to move up in Macy’s. They are underpaying workers and managers in the stores. Not worth the headache. Take your days off when you want as you want , Macy’s doesn’t care about you. You are a NUMBER
Hey Current Red Badge, 20 years….. good luck when you make more money….. They got rid of all of us with the wealth of knowledge to keep the stores running efficiently. For six months after I was let go from Macy’s people in my same position would call me and say, I know i shouldn’t ask this, but how do you do this? YOU ARE A NUMBER…. You’re salary isn’t high enough for them to consider you a liability. Post on here when you make $100 and still have a job outside of the “waste of space” regional teams who do NOTHING but point fingers on everything you’re doing wrong with less people in the store to do the work…. GOOD LUCK IN 2022…. The inflated numbers of 2021 will look really scary when it all comes back to some sort of reality. GOOD LUCK TO ALL THE SMALL STORES….. YOU ARE ON THE CHOPPING BLOCK. You’re real estate is worth so much more than your jobs.
For example… there is a store on the east coast, that has two building and their real estate is worth a TON of money……. Macy’s will offload at least one of those buildings as soon as it can figure out how to merge the two. 1/2 the work force will be gone.
GET OUT NOW!!!! There is other careers and job opportunities for all of you.
Retired Red Badge here.....true story about Executive visits.....a zillion years ago I was a Sales Manager in a large store in the Seattle market that is now closed. We had a very large dock with lots of places to hide stuff before visits. Getting ready for these visits required paper folding almost every folded top in the store.....things like putting away go backs ( aka dump) were not a priority......during one visit the freight elevator was filled with rolling racks of go backs.....and many other places on the dock. The store manager knew this....it was her idea. Except when the visitors wanted a tour of the dock. I heard there was some mighty fast tap dancing going on......:)
@lyy Good for you. Instead of whining and complaining you have worked hard with pride and taken control of your career. Too many people today want everything handed to them.
Real quick it’s is accurate to say because Macy’s is losing good people due to top management decisions that are being made. Their decisions affect the entire organization. Again you are fortunate to have a good leader most shores that I talk to say their leaders are two faced and could care less about their employees.
Again if you do not like or agree what is said why are you on here in the first place? Your ignorance is very apparent. You are one of those people that if others opinions are different than yours you have an issue. Get over yourself and go drink more Kool-Aid.
Macy’s is a terrible company to be paying new hires more than tenured employees. You can talk all you want. That is the fact and it is morally wrong and unethical. You most likely are a senior management crony trying to defend your bad decisions.
Find somewhere else to sell your garbage.
Real quick… not all high level managers are lazy… many of them work side by side with their teams digging in on recovery, fulfillment, or many other things that come up. There are some bad eggs and some bad stores, but saying the entire company is one way or another is inaccurate and ignorant. I’ve also seen that theory about fake complaints come up many times. That is entirely untrue. I have never seen or heard of that ever happening. If you’re doing a good job, why would anyone ever want to make up a complaint to remove you? Just another excuse to convince yourselves someone other than you is to blame.
You know everyone who wrote in saying " this is a great place and jobs and im treated well" you are clearly either a corporates clown or a store manager who hides in the back or behind your computer. you do not do any physical work in this dump nor do you deal with the customer base this store has created. so go kick rocks by the look of all the write in on this site macys treats their employees like garbage and a number and when your numbers up that's when the fake complaints come in.
If your an associate and paid well along with your area that means cosmetics. Everyone knows the cosmetics team is paid well because it is subsidized by the cosmetic companies. That is the only reason your paid well.
Go sell your rah tag someplace else
If you are in store with a true leader you are fortunate. They are few and far between in the company.
Our store leader is like an emotional child. He hides in his office, afraid of any and all confrontation, outright lies and spends his time covering up his incompetence and kissing up to the regional. This lack of leadership has bred an in and out group of managers who do nothing because they are not trained. This also leaves the associates with no.l clear direction and so they do what they want. Our store is usually in total shambles unless there is a visit. That is when all the loacal stores have to send help and the temps are brought in to clean up the mess. Then we put on this big show for the visit and the day after the visit everything goes back to its normal operating disaster. The store and bathroom are filthy , carpets are never vacuumed except for the entrance.
I am sure there are some good stores leaders but try working in a store with a poor leader.
This “associate” is much smarter than you may think. Think much higher there my friend. Side note, my first post started with me being a “red badge”. I don’t want to keep making all of you look foolish, just consider there is another side to this company. It’s not all doom and gloom throughout it all. Some stores are engaging, fun places to work. Guessing this side of it is nothing anyone on this site would want to consider, better to complain and blame. All good! Have a happy holiday!
may I ask the 20 year associate what your salary is, just wondering how smart you really are!
I’m here twenty years due to rising up the ranks and being successful. I could go somewhere else very easily, but I am well taken care of here. I am on this site to see what people are complaining about so I could address those potential things in my location. It’s a free open forum and there are some valid concerns coming up. Great resource. As far as the temp folks, we aren’t paying them anything, we hired companies to help support our colleagues. Not sure what any of them make, but could be a premium based on them filling a need. We pay our colleagues well in my area so that’s not a concern either. Again, no one here would be open to anything but negativity or complaints, so not surprised. Just hard to see so much negativity and not give another side of it.
If you are foolish enough to break your back for a company that is paying new hires and temp agency people $15 to $18 to start then you deserve to drink the Macy’s Kool-Aid.
You are there for twenty years because nobody else will hire you. Macy’s is a dead end company.
If you are so loyal why are you on this site?
Hardly a favorite... I think they can barely stand me... I'm smart, hard working, and I get results. I also don't make excuses and blame others if I fall short. This isn't a Macy's thing, its a life thing. Be effective and you will succeed, complain and make excuses and you will fail. Most people that spend time on this site clearly fall into the second category in my mind. #growup
Jeff stop writing on this site
I guess you are one of the favorites. 🤣
Current red badge, 20 years… great career, tons of upward movement. Work hard, am effective and able to change with the times… wildly successful… love and appreciate my company. Guess this won’t play well here. Sorry, not sorry.
