Like so many others, I was blindsided and RIF'd on Halloween day. Yes, it has been a rough couple of months, but I was able to land another gig starting early January.
It's not hopeless, just keep pressing forward and don't look back.

To those riffed, keep your chins up and take each day as it comes.
To those remaining, use every opportunity to question leaders why some of the best and brightest staff have been let go. Question why the strategy is not working. Question why they continue to reward themselves millions of dollars whilst the company flounders. Question why we are getting beat up by competitors who just a few years ago they were saying are no threat.
Rise up against the ELT, make their life uncomfortable and stop allowing them to enrich themselves at the expense of those who have left the company.
Was riffed on 11/10 as well. And lots of rejections so far. Professional resume writer did a nice job but I wonder if brevity really works because good information (my opinion) is removed. Very frustrating, especially after so many years there and always being being told “don’t worry you’re too valuable”
Riffed colleagues, maintain hope and have full faith in yourself. You are much better people than the sc-ms that laid people off for their failures. Don't let them have the satisfaction. The best response to them is to attain whatever role you aspire, better if with a competitor, and put the ELT out of their business.
I'm typing from my car which is where I now live since being riffed last year.
Do I hold out hope of finding a job? Probably not after being rejected repeatedly.
Given just a few weeks severence pay only lasted so long on the bare essentials so now my car is my home.
These ELT don't feel any shame at all, they will continue to award themselves obscene salaries whilst everything else burns around them. If you're still at Teradata, I can guarantee they are planning to come for you too. You are just a number to them, not a human and they'll continue to divide and conquer hard working employees.
I was part of GTM and my last date was 11/10/23. I applied furiously and was invited for by 6-8 companies for interviews and out of which I had four final interviews. I landed a job exactly in 60 days and I started my new job with same level of salary on last Monday !
Spend time fine tuning the resume for each job and make sure all key words from the job posting appear in the resume . There are website that offer services to compare resume with job description and give the % of match . Utilize them to standout .
In the interviews I highlighted top line revenue decline and virtually no new logo growth as reasons for decline leadings to yearly RIFs. Interviewers seemed to understand the drivers when explained . Job market looks tough at the high level but there are plenty of opportunities in my area still .
Good luck to all who are searching still.
To the most recent post, I hope you land on your feet somewhere good and deserving soon. Stay strong!
To the mention of the death of a recently laid off colleague below, OMG! I don’t even have words…
I got riffed 2 months ago and my xmas was very dismal and taking my own life has crept into my head. I was basically turfed out onto the street with zero support.
The job market is very tight, 100's applying for every job and I haven't even had a 1st interview yet with anyone. All just rejection letters.
I hope I can continue to push forward and not resort to "other" actions.
So sorry to hear about our lost colleague. If you're feeling down, please get help and talk/call someone. Lots of us were out of work this holiday season so you're not alone.
Each of us will find a fulfilling and rewarding job soon so keep you head up!
This is awful to hear. Was the person U.S. based that passed on XMAS?
Sorry to hear!
Was this person based in the United States?
@lom+1qhVY8NY - I worked for the GSO support team and was also doing work for engineering.
@1glh+1qhVY8NY - I know nothing about that tragic event. Terrible news.
Lucky you!
I know someone who was laid off on Halloween and committed su----e on Xmas day. I came on here to see if it was mentioned.
Teradata has turfed staff out onto the street with zero assistance and it's appalling. This is the hidden cost of what Teradata has been doing to staff over many years.
Congrats!
I was also Rif'd but am still looking. I was in Sales.
Were you in sales, engineering or product?
