Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Chris Jones AVP Channel leaving

Chris Jones, our AVP of Channel, has decided to leave the company, as he was unwilling to relocate to Dallas. His approach often felt distant, with limited engagement with team members at other levels. His departure opens up the chance for a fresh start with leadership that’s more approachable.

The company is asking many AVPs to drop to director, in order to collapse a layer. The ego of the current “do nothing”AVPs won’t allow them to do that so you will see MANY leaving the company before end of year.

"Between complex commission structures, lack of account protection, and frequent cases of direct reps taking over accounts, it’s clear why SPs may be hesitant."

SP's can sell all other carriers. Be very careful burning us. AT&T has those issues but other carriers do not.

Good luck.

Solution Providers (SPs) face serious challenges that make it difficult for them to take on these roles enthusiastically. Between complex commission structures, lack of account protection, and frequent cases of direct reps taking over accounts, it’s clear why SPs may be hesitant. Enterprise and government accounts are heavily protected, while the overall project management approach leaves much to be desired.

Alliance Channel and SP workforce will fully replace AT&T's primary workforce. Now you have SP's doing the work of the sales force only costing 20% of the MRC. No salaries to pay, no benefits to pay, real estate expenses go to nothing...much less costs.

Layoffs of AT&T sales people will continue until this transition to SP's is complete. It makes financial sense because the cost for an AT&T sales force is about 85%-90% of MRC.

Executives need more than 10%-15% for bonuses and their theft.

Prove me wrong.

What we have found is that AT&T employees are way overpaid. When they leave AT&T, they are having to take a 50%-60% payout at other companies if they can even find a job at all.

We have hired 12 former employees that were surplused < 12 months ago and they are miserable people.

Eventually you come to realize that AT&T was the worst company you ever worked for a d other companies do not value your skills because they are a dime a dozen and only applicable to the AT&T environment.

Jush Danielson is even more useless. For years pushing marketing that no customer wanted and didn't comp the sales force.

A real demotivater right there but to be expected.

With Chris Jones leaving, it’s time the Alliance Channel takes a closer look at who’s truly adding value. Next on the list should be Rich Carerra, whose presence doesn’t align with the professionalism we need—especially when it comes to skill and leadership. The current leadership team has too many people who aren’t meeting expectations, and none more so than Christie Y’barbo. Her role in approving questionable sales practices, like paying partners excessively for bandwidth upgrades, reflects poorly on our integrity. It’s time for a real change.

Totally agree. Chris Jones always came across as overly self-assured, almost as if he saw himself above others. It’s refreshing to think of leadership that’s more down-to-earth and genuinely engaged with the whole team. I hope this brings a new era with positive changes in leadership style, and that we continue to assess if other team members, like Justin Lyle and Char Urban, are aligned with the skills and values needed for this shifT.

“He should have been more conformist to the cause. No other corporation will pick him up. He’s lucky if some city will hire him as a garbage collector now.”

rofl.
So you shouldn’t advise your leaders if you think they’re making a mistake?
This is how yes men are made and tyrants are able rule, because no one has the ba--s to speak up.

what it probably means is that the Dallas replacement will be even more of a yes man.

This is the case in many orgs and will decrease with RTO.

Just proves that being in a hub city doesn't mean you're safe from moving, and if you're not willing to move, someone else is.

Fresh leadership? IDK about that--just a different one. You're getting Jush Danielson; only a year younger than Chris and has been with the company about 23 years.

My AVP left due to FTW and they didn’t replace. They just re-org’d and moved other AVPs around.
You might not get someone “new” versus someone simply reassigned.

we need more like him, leaders that have their own opinion and don't share the same 'yes sir' clone format

but we should take a look at the performance of his team not how approachable he was to really grasp his true success
