Thread regarding Boeing Co. layoffs

Stop the panic, please.

Boeing is the best aircraft manufacturer in the world and builds top planes. What happened to 737MAX is an anomaly. The company will come out of it and in a much better shape than it was in before due to restructuring and enforcement of a much tighter quality control and safety rules.

Just wait and see.

  • Whatever we say before the outbreak will sound alarmist.
  • Whatever we do after the outbreak happens will not be enough.

@3dqz+13DWXEfe, except I am not in HR and have never been in HR.

For all the "tolerance" those on the west coast preach, it's amazing how intolerant they can be when your opinions dont align exactly with theirs

As I said, I have worked at other companies AND at Boeing once before. The other companies I have worked for would have laid off by now. Hell, at the time I worked for Boeing the first time, Boeing would have laid off by now. Do I WANT to believe Boeing is different now, I do. But do I actually believe that, no, there is still a lot of distrust.

So, I really do not know what to think. The actions (or in this case, inaction) that has been taken baffle me.

The layoffs will happen after the legislature votes to remove the tax break in Washington. That massive tax break was tied to Boeing employment numbers. The tax break stipulated that the company had to maintain a certain amount of jobs in the state. With the tax break gone the deal is no longer valid. Warm notices willgo out shortly thereafter.

@3dqz you just want to see the conspiracy and propaganda everywhere. I know it might sound crazy but what if Boeing actually values its employees and doing its best to keep them employed? Why is it so hard to believe?

Yes you do know what to think, your Network helped write this post @3xwo
You are HR. That post is propaganda.

Propaganda noun.
2: the spreading of ideas, information, or rumor for the purpose of helping or
injuring an institution, a cause, or a person
3: ideas, facts, or allegations spread deliberately to further one's cause or to
damage an opposing cause

I can see the @3xwo Post for what it is.
I will not tell you how it is so glaringly obvious

I have worked for other aerospace companies, I've worked outside of aerospace, this is my second stint with Boeing. Oh, and I read and have a network so I know how other companies treat employees. Boeing is no different. Which makes it VERY surprising that there have been no layoffs. I dont know what to think. A part of me thinks they have to be coming, this is bad. But another part of me says that people have been predicting layoffs for 11 months and nothing has happened. I just dont know what to think.

You guys obviously haven't worked for other aerospace companies... BOEING is the best company in aviation to work for! No one takes care of its employees like Boeing does, you are all delusional.

@OP+13DWXEfe everyone thinks leadership starts at the top' but it doesn't. The unions used to have balls. They used to strike over things like working conditions and bad management's but today's unions have a lot in common with the Board of Directors. They are all about money.

As long as you take it's they will keep giving it to you.

I'm the OP. Yes, it is the anomaly, especially for such a decent and quality/safety oriented aircraft manufacturer that Boeing once was. I am in no way downplaying the horror and grief of the families and people who died in 2 crashes happened solely due to the Boeing's bad recent practices and money chase... I would expect sh– like this to come from any other plane manufacturer, be it Airbus or Bombardier, just not Boeing. Maybe I am delusional, but how a company that had been putting such emphasis on quality and safety let something like this to happen? It is an anomaly...

I agree it is pretty delusional, but the worst?

I'm not sure it is more delusional than the posts predicting layoffs for the past 11 months that have not happened. And yet the Oracles of the Internet continue to predict them.

I'd say it's a wash

USED to build the best planes in the world and may again if steps are taken.

There are many reasons for this.

  1. The apathy of the employees. You can see that in the posts here on this site.
  2. The "brain drain" of the 80's and 90's. Boeing offered to buy out older engineers and almost every one of them took them up on it. They felt N00bs out of school could do the job for cheaper. (And this is about to happen again when the Boomers leave)
  3. Union leadership failing its members. When the union leadership decided to line it's own pockets instead of the rank and file, it contributed the apathy. Only now are IAM members seeing that it is their own leadership screwing them and not Boeing leadership.
  4. Increasing regulation has contributed as well.
  5. A BoD who has ZERO aircraft experience. Just because you have seen them in the military or flown on one for your previous executive positions, does not qualify you.

No one person or group is to blame, everyone shares responsibility. Until everyone works together, stands up for what is right even when its difficult (and before you say it, this includes ALL IAM members doing thier job completely even when management beats on you for takt time).

I expect many to vote this down and post "it's not me" posts and as long as that happens, we will never get back to the Boeing of old.

It will be voted down not because it's not true, but because you don't like the message.

Boeing doesn't just have a short term problem they have many new long term problems that have been cooking for more than a decade. Employee morale is incredibly low. Management walks around like the choosen ones. Many have not one clue how to manage. Many have no respect or human decency. Employees are stomped on and harassed. No one really cares. Career development has become a joke. They have taken pensions from any and all Unions. There are Unions at Boeing but no representation. The company @#$&ed us all over and continues to do so. They became so greedy and arrogant it blinded them. Then Karma came along and now they are losing billions. This debacle will cost them over 30 billion and go down as one of the biggest corporate @#$& ups. The second they start treating their workforce with respect is the second things may start turning around but I will not hold my breathe.

Boeing's planes are good but Boeing is a sh– company to work for. I for one am tired of the management riding every ones a– for the bs the higher ups created. I don't enjoy going to work any more, its become a game of cat and mouse. So F Boeing and F the IAM for not standing up for our rights.
