Thread regarding VMware layoffs

If Broadcom wanted to exit China it should have done so before VMware acquisition

At this point it's too late to pull out. They can, but that won't save the VMware deal.

Not to mention pulling out will be a massive hit for company's finances and operations.

Never wait too late to pull out, that's how babies happen.

@lgm+1poBsDbO OP here. No there is no indication that Broadcom is willing or able to exit China market. In fact it's quite opposite. It's just that there were some people insisting Broadcom can just close the deal by running China entity or can abandon China market instantly (like that's easy or quick) to close the VMware deal.

Same people are also spreading misguided notion that US FTC lost their "window" to block the deal, confusing the statutory pre merger waiting period with some sort of deadline that was given to FTC. That waiting period was a deadline to raise an issue during the review. However, it does not stop them from being able to file a suit to block the deal and deadline to file that suit can even be after the acquisition has closed (if closed then suit will be to unwind). So while it's technically not illegal for Broadcom to close VMware acquisition in the US, the risk of FTC suit is still there. In antitrust they call it "close at your own peril"
