Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

Need consequences for Boards and Execs.

Ruthless demand for shareholder value is slashing jobs at record levels even while posting record profits. It’s utter madness: fire workers, cut costs, and watch the stock price climb, all while those same executives pocket massive bonuses and RSU awards. Meanwhile, hardworking Americans' careers are destroyed, financial security shattered. Morale is at an all-time low, and the fear of sudden unemployment hangs over everyone like a cloud. This unrestrained corporate greed, where people are treated as disposable is unsustainable. Tougher employment laws and consequences for companies and execs is the answer. If wall street refuses to value human dignity, then it’s time for workers to fight back and demand the respect they deserve. Enough is enough.

It’s a same that the CEO repeatedly promised no more layoff and even went to the extent of same “if there were more it would be him”. Big decline in honesty and transparency.

California's at-will employment law generally allows employers to terminate employees for any reason or no reason at all, as long as it's not for an illegal reason. This means that employers can adjust their workforce to meet business needs, such as downsizing. However, there are some exceptions.

Last year when the Q downsized me, I was told to leave the office 10/13/23 and my job ended on 12/13/23. Some people thought it was harsh for the Q to lay people off just before Christmas, so maybe this year Layoffs could be 9/18 the 60 days notice will end just before Thanksgiving.

@ldi: Yes. It is gone since the days of Pres Ronnie Raygun. We need to fight and get it back. Since those days, the crop of politicians come to us for vote, but once in Congress, they, in turn, vote to benefit Corporations. Corrupt SCOTUS even termed Corporations as "people". 100 years ago, women could not even vote. 50 years ago, a woman could not get a credit card without husband's approval. As late as 1960's there used to drinking fountains and toilets marked "Colored". Each progressives in each generation fought for change against the regressives (aka conservatives). We can fight and get our rights. First thing is to petition to tighten all work visas for all foreigners. Period. We are producing enough youngsters with STEM background and don't need them. We can get even more if they are paid fair living wages based on education and talent.

Loyalty to employees has been gone for 30+ years. Basically employment is on a 2 week cycle. You work 2 weeks, are paid, reset, repeat. All is even, company owes you nothing more. You're kidding yourself is you think there is anything past this...

Don't worry, Karma will hit back Q in the butt, look at Intel! Moving everything to India and expect to stay innovative and competitive is proven to be a failure. Q management is very stupid, jump ship while still some time, Don't sink with it!
