Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Eff it let’s all go remote.

Let’s all opt in remote and see what happens they can’t stop us all. This is not fair since a lot of us were hired to remote. If they want to layoff let them pay up severance.

This is not right some people are paying off mortgages and everything but they want to bully you to RTO when the last 3 years we were remote this is truly a disgrace to the company. And shows the dishonesty of Michael Dell’s words about remote work.

To be fair... every big tech company have gone back on their words on remote work. It was the bees knees to keep morale high and share price stable during covid to show its BAU plus new revenue for remote solutions. Now covid is finished, they realised big commercial leases paid for empty office and the few lazy employees have spoilt the trust for the rest of us. Time going back to how things were done since factories introduced 9 to 5 to condition employee lives, income expectation, education goals, and marketing to make you waste your salary with product you don't actually need, while prices keep going up because they hold back and control the supplies to create scarcity.

I worked there for 15 years. I was fully remote for the last 9 even though I lived 15 minutes from the office. I wish I still worked there so I could quit over this nonsense.

"Dell is totally going back on its word."

That's the point I have been trying to drill into people's head. Dell has lost all credibility.
This new RTO will be changed it it doesn't go their way as well.

@laf+1qVWx4tB, you have to make a choice sometime in March, depending on the country you are in.
No, you will not get a severance.

Ex Dell employee here. So I don't have a dog in this fight. But I was there when people signed off to go full remote. Dell is totally going back on its word. Before the pandemic there was a 1 hour commute limit but now there is no limit. If you were hired to be full remote then you should be able to keep that status. People changed their entire lives based on what Dell told them. Now Dell is located in Texas, which is an at will state so they can do this.

You're an at-will employee. The company can do whatever it wants.

Banking on remote jobs being stable is a fool's errand ... out of sight, out of mind.

It doesn't make sense that we make products for the cloud, robo, and connectivity for customers, but the employees making it happen are not able to actually remote. 😂

"FIND another job if you're not happy there instead of throwing tantrums over it."

Can I do both? :-)

Management have to approve remote. How is that a decision... They will decline in most cases to force people in. Can we refuse hybrid and be given severence?

The problem isn't RTO.
It is whatever dell says is no longer credible. Even this RTO is not credible. it'll problaby change in a few months

The company lies, backtracks, fumbles, renege.

They aren't bullying you since it's their company. If you don't want to be employed with a call to RTO, look for another remote job.
