RTO - late evening / night or early morning calls

One thing the comrades from Dell management didn't realize is that thanks to their new amazing RTO policy, I can with a clear conscience show the middle finger and refuse meetings outside of the office hours ;) Thanks Jeff for the great excuse for refusing the meeting request.

Pre-Covid I almost never spoke to colleagues in EMEA or APAC. Once everyone worked from home then everyone was on calls at all hours.

Just go back to working within your region. No one should be working after 5.

You do if you take the initiative! Start your day the moment you leave the driveway, and leave the office so that the last part of the workday is the drive home.

Do you get paid travel time to the office? Alright for some...

The two hours I’m going to be spending in my car now- means two less hours of working per day.

8 - 2 =6 hour days.

Would recommend everyone leaves their laptop at the office locked up in one of the drawers when they go home too

I have already informed my team in India that I will not be available for meetings outside of USA business hours. This is sad as I worked 8-10 hours a day when I WFH and normally would be on line at 4am so I could do meeting with my team in BDC. But now that I am mandated to sit in a cube I will only work during my normal business hours.

I asked my manager what flexibility I may have to continue to WFH. Her response was I had no flexibility and she informed me that was the directive she got from her VP.

When Austin has another ice-pocalyse I’ll bet they’ll expect us to work from home. RTO is a joke. Glad some leaders let their teams do what works for them. Talking non-sales roles.

Such hypocrisy from “leadership”

You spend 20 plus years working long hard hours for what?! Now if you don’t return to office you are not promotable, you will be seen as rebellious if you only work 8 hours and not one of these decision makers have enough knowledge to do all the work you do! You go through wfrs and get handed more work with less help and then get told to have work life balance but get frowned on when you take time off! Take the package if you can and be done! There is life after this place! No more chaos returning to a dirty offfice with loud disruption… makes so much sense?!

I told my director the same thing that I'm now working 8am-5pm and will no longer be doing 4hrs worth of meetings at night anymore. I will also not do my normal 6:30am and 7:00am meeting calls as well. My director is in full support of this as they said it's only fair.

"They will think you are not a team player."

Oh, no! Not after everything they've done for us. How ungrateful.

"Yes if you do strictly 8 to 5 it will be noticed. I did it my last year with them. They will think you are not a team player."
But this is great! You gonna get wfred during the very next round, take severance and live a happy life!

The 5-7AM hours...I can either be on calls, or getting ready and driving an hour to the nearest office. Can't do both. Dell chose which is more important. Create teams spread around the globe and then create policies like we are all in Round Rock. This policy will waste many people's time...

20+ years and I’m removing email and messaging apps from my phone. They can wait until the morning and regular business hours. Works both ways.

Last year's restrictions on remote workers not getting promoted really irked me, as I've spent 17 years here all told (via 2 acquisitions) and was my career path to be a top engineer. Now, there's really no hope that remote workers will ever be promotable. It's not a long term option for me. I really don't want to leave, but if I am to have any sort of a career, I guess I'll have to leave. Moving closer to the office is not an option, 1 hour out from that office is one million dollar houses.

catch-22... management will use your absence on off-hour calls as an excuse to mark you as a poor performer

The suffering of coming in everyday is worse than the ability to be done at 5. The Dell juice is no longer worth the squeeze and I don’t know anyone who sees this place as a long term option anymore. It’s really sad that this is where we are, and for what? Who knows anymore.
