Thread regarding Accenture layoffs

Was there a worse time to be laid off?

Just think about it - where can we apply for a new job when everybody is laying off right now? Nobody is hiring and will not be for who knows how long. What does that leave us with? How long before the severance money runs out?

I know people who've been laid off before keep saying there's life after Accenture, but I don't think there was ever a comparable situation to what we are going through right now.

Simply put, we're screwed.

There is always opportunities. It might he harder now and we have to be more creative. We are the maker of our lives. This might be a chance to reinvent ourselves if it come to it.

  • The people who were let go were on project or working on proposal / sow with high win probability when they kept individuals with 0 changeability and not working on anything but they are someone's favorite.
this is so true, it's not fair, it's not just and it's so visible - it underlines a major problem we have
  • Another factor to consider is ACN should detoxify offices starting with narcissistic leadership discouraged to think outside the box or suggest new ideas because they don’t want to rock the boat or be different.
Rule #1: be flexible and NEVER rock the boat. k–ls innovation and fosters complacency
  • There are enough projects, the question is why only specials get assigned to project?
The entire laddering system and the verticals work does not help as well. 'stars' and 'popular kids' are protected and almost deified, many of them contribute very little
  • Why proposals are always done with same team over and over with almost 0 win rate?
i was on a large client where the client would come and say 'we need xyz, it's x million, start working on it in 2 weeks' - a great win for the md & his crew, she just sold millions... in reality it was just 'order taking' - the entire account is just order taking. at the same time you have folks in the office doing proposals with zero win rate just because on EVERY single one of them the client already knows who they will go with (and ACN is just used to fill their candidate quotas set by their procurement departments) - oh, well...

@moa: Yes, it's just a pity that "retooling" generally doesn't pay the mortgage or put food on the table.

So if there is no work for someone’s skill for the foreseeable future, they should keep paying them anyways? Not saying it doesn’t s—, but these are businesses not charities. There is only so much they can do without jeopardizing the health of the company for the people they can afford to keep.

@kuj nails it - there is layer that's getting fat while trillions are being redistributed.

While we are re-tooling....hedge funds and ultra-rich are having a ball buying everything at a bargain. Our income gaps just gets wider and wider after each recession...nice.

Were you laid off today? Are they mass layoffs? If so, what are? There are companies still recruiting and taking advantage of the layoffs.

Yep, 'use time to retool' is the best advice anyone can give you nowadays. we'll bounce back, that's the way

Stay positive my friend. Bseed on 25+ years in the industry, I can tell you that you will come back stronger. The next job might be delayed but will be better. Use this time to retool.
