Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

How can they let go people based on PIP?

With the high degree of managerial incompetence that is plaguing this company how does one mange to let himself be PIPed out ?
Proving that someone is incompetent and is not performing well requires some degree of technical sophistication that MOST of the managers we have are not capable of.
I have seen this a lot around here, oh they put me on a PIP. Technically it is very difficult to fake prove that someone is incompetent unless the person is indeed incompetent. The performance factor will always be arguable and no judge in this world will grant Cisco reasonable grounds for termination with the current workload level most of us have. Adding more to that to push you out is practically impossible. The current workload as is it is already border line, medically and from legal perspective.

So my opinion is that when I see that people are complaining about being PIPed out, is that they really needed to be

@ks if PIP impacted "Leaders" then RC and SS would have been out years ago. You fail upwards here

@ks Never! Leadership is one team and they take care of each other. That is one reason why it’s so difficult to go up the ladder.

Odds are most that get hit with a PIP this round needed it for years. You can get put on a plan any time. Don't think getting by the review cycle does anything for you in the way of safety. If you've been a low performer, it's coming. Be assured of that.

are you asking why Cisco is stupid?

it is very easy to find something lacking, or make up something that is subjective. the goal they give you are so intangiable that they can always argue their way out of it. there is no recourse or complaint process other than a ER case, which would be on their side anyway

this is their way to get rid of high paying older folks, or folks that are politically unwelcome, without paying for severance, you pretty much just get one month extra pay after the PIP ends

it is the very dark side of this company

All they need is to cut cost to pay dividends. Cisco stock has doubled in the last few years ! More dividends to pay to shareholders.

They will do anything to get rid of employees in USA and hire in Eastern Europe or Asia.

If you don’t agree with their F in Bull S h it or the review process, you are a target. 80% of managers are narcissists and crazy ! They lack empathy and critical judgement.

It is all about bias and groupism !

At least in software the average engineer at Cisco under perform deadwood. Flipping a coin gives you a better than average chance of correctly deciding if someone should go. Four operating systems of endless inconsistencies, bugs and static analysis warnings failing to do essentially the same thing and collectively you still haven't figured it out.

You are just a number, rest doesn’t matter. No one is indispensable.
