to stop all the customers leaving? It seems to me that never before have so many customers left TD. This negative trend just doesn't stop. On the other hand, I can’t believe they’re doing nothing to stop it? Or are they just powerless to do it after all? The situation is really very bad.

Teradata Universe and the 2022 GSX will be telling!
Having a “cloud first” strategy in 2020 is embarrassing and tells you all you need to know. Snowflake stole the cloud dw market in plain sight. SM and his ELT has no vision or plan. HA is good at looking good but delivers nothing. Customers will figure out how to unplug Teradata. Most are actively doing it already.
It is silly to blame TD's woes on dated technology because TD had the cash flow, customer base, and engineering talent to fix that problem long ago. But successive waves of inept "leaders" squandered the opportunities they were given. In the right hands TD could probably still be saved but that will never happen under the current regime.
I wouldn't say powerless. Clueless, potentially. Spineless - most likely (see @rvg+1bKPhTyn and @kia+1bKPhTyn).
To my estimate @vzh+1bKPhTyn is only half right - the foundations have been so fundamentally right, that it took 40 years of wrecking ba--s being pounded at them, but the age of a theory is irrelevant as long as it's valid and applicable. So obsolescence is not the cause as much as aggressive incompetence. Hence my first paragraph.
They don't care. They still get their golden parachute when they leave or get fired.
How can the ELT be powerless when they are all white and, according to their own woke ideology, white people have all the power by virtue of their skin color?
Of course they are powerless. Teradata is based on a 40 year-old tecnnology and management was arrogant enought to think that no competitor could overtake them, so they only made incremental improvements to the technology, mostly based on innovaions from their hardware suppliers.
How many new product features were introduced in the last 6 months? How many new diversity initiatives were introduced in the same timeframe? While the ELT plays the fiddle, Rome burns.
