Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Hoping for a WFR

With the increased workload people have and negativity within the buisness I find it harder and harder to get anything done.
I am a really hard worker usually and can honestly say that while working from home Dell has had its pound of flesh from me and more but the last few months with all the extra workload and now RTO office news I cant seem to go more than 20 mins before I zone out and my concentration goes elsewhere.
I have lost all motivation in my work for Dell and am hoping for a WFR.
Just an honest question to see how people feel.

Working like a dog to get ahead is the biggest scam ever pulled on the working class. You know how you get ahead. It is who you know, doing good at your job (and no that doesn't mean doing good at two people's jobs), and building a resume for the next spot you want. It isn't working 60 hours+ a week. No one is impressed by you sacrificing your life for work. It is just sad. And if you are doing these things and your career isn't advancing then you are at the wrong place at the wrong time.

it seems the people that check all the boxes have entered the conversation.

Have you considered identifying as a dog? It might help your cause.

My natural inclination is to work like a dog to get ahead. However, corporate America places much higher priority on your s-x, skin color, s-xuality, and gender delusion than your performance when making career advancement decisions. Going above and beyond only props up less competent workers that were placed in their roles to check boxes. Not only does extra effort not pay off, but it props up the broken system. I'll do my job (and do it well) and collect my check. Any extra effort will go into side hustles and other endeavors that will benefit me.

my mental health is in the gutter and above and beyond has a lot to do with it. don't let that become your norm.

It's just a job. If you drop dead they will have you replaced in a few weeks. It's not quiet quitting if you show up, do as much as you can and then walk away after you've put in your day's work. Get out of the idea of going over and beyond because going over and beyond sets a floor for their expectations of you.

I found myself retiring from IT and I now have a job close to my home 7 miles to work each day with good benefits. Yes I could have only done this by paying off all debt including our home with the funds from the severance as well as some of my 401K money. The pay delta is big with much lower pay however we do not need big income at this time. Health insurance coverage was the reason I went back to work at this time. The job market in Tech is tough now for older techs that do not know the latest skills. Rather then re-certify and re-tool I decided to slow down my life. Sometimes you have to realize your time is up for the fast paced high tech world.

Stop over thinking it. Take your salary. Get the job done and don't give a second thought to the bullsh-t and the awful culture. Quietly quit and wait for WFR. Don't sacrifice your mental health for Dell...its a stupid thing to do

That post didn't say you couldn't get more or that you shouldn't go elsewhere. It is saying that companies that trade on the stock exchange are incentivized to work toward quarterly profits instead of the welfare of the company in the long term and usually its people suffer for that outcome. HPE, VMWare, Google, they all are doing the same. Go to the layoff boards for those companies and you see the same complaints. For your own mental health either accept it or move on. Whining in an echo chamber isn't going to change the "culture" of any company. Now coming to this site to actually read layoff rumors makes sense. You can use that info to prepare yourself, make assessments on your next move and stuff like that. But there are usually very few rumors and more just people whining.

I feel the same and I understand other companies are likely the same. But if I can get paid more to deal with the BS Dell’s putting on us then so be it. I’ll take my high level attainment and job hop to my heart’s content. I was happy in my job about a year ago with no intentions to leave. That has changed quickly.

Never listen to the you can't do better than dell crowd. worst of the lot. They are the ones who have been parked there for 20y
they have sold themselves on accepting a life of mediocrity.

Dell is a tier 4 or 5 company. There is better out there. Make no mistake about it.
Question is can you get out of the soul sucking rut.

sad...but very true. The grass isn't much greener in another company. Sometimes it is easier to stay with the devil you know then to join up with the devil you don't know.

These kind of rants are absurd. If you aren't fulfilled then maybe you should be looking for a new job. I hate to b-m you out but working at Dell is no different than working at HPE, VMWare, Oracle, AWS, MS, etc. They are big giant corporations that work at the direction of Wall St quarterly profits. If you want an experience where you work on a team that is all connected and family like, then find a job at a small business. For the big corporations you are a number on a spreadsheet. And when revenue is down then those numbers might not add up to keep you. It sucks but welcome to capitalism.

I personally feel the same way too. I am really not sure what is going on at the Executives level. The target sometimes gets impossible. And hard working people are not rewarded well enough. I see huge politics involved inside Dell. Too much beaurocracy. Hard working people are shut down and not involved in the conversation with leaders. There is nepotism within the team. Tell Dell does not do any good. Team member with honest feedback are put in the coaching. I used to love Dell but now I am so frustrated to see the ugly side of the company that is prevalent almost everywhere. No one cares to make Dell better. Very few people actually care.
