Thread regarding Fiserv Inc. layoffs

Busy Work

As a Director , I find myself and my teams spending more time on BS busy work than we are on client commitments and projects. False positives in Fortify, focus on clarity reports, agile transformation, badge swipe reports, RTO, sapience, unlimited R&R, etc. When will the madness stop? It doesn’t matter what we do as long as we are here 9 hours a day, 5 days a week, type 8 hours a day, and never take vacation. Forget doing development.

I know most don't believe it, but there are a good number of us managers that are pushing back as much as we can.

I've said it many times on this site. Most of the managers here aren't given any more respect than the firm gives to the people who report to us. We're just meant to take extra punishment, pass along their BS agenda, and not to think of ourselves as leaders.

It's just like FB commenting today that he thinks Lyons might be capable of independent thought. He really does believe everyone else is below him. It's no surprise that so many leaders have that mindset and get away with it. Frank should've been ashamed, but he just doubled down instead.

As more proof that we get no respect either, remember that the firm unilaterally added an extra 5 hours to manager's work week, and did it without warning during the holidays. And those 45hrs must be performed in an office during specified hours, regardless of family, health, commute, or any other concerns. We're allowed no say in how are teams are run, and now less say in how our lives are run.

There are some bad managers here. Too many. They're the definition of "failing up" and it seems to get worse the closer you get to the top. But not all of the managers want to sit back on ego driven power trips. A lot of us hoped to make a difference to improve process, working conditions, and quality and we're still trying.

Been reading this and all I can say is da---t man. I have been at Fiserv for a decade now. When I started we had a clear mission and leaders who knew what was going on. Now we have a bunch of yes men cronies that never push back and drive this insanity. I can tell you a bunch of us leaders left are tying to keep our teams intact. They have managed to either lay off or run off very talented people. These efforts to micromanage people is driving quality into the dirt. Now all we see is the blame game between teams so not to end up on some list. How about you allow us to lead our people and foster teamwork among other teams instead of fighting about who's change caused what INC. Reminds me of the spiderman meme where they are all pointing at each other. Who else likes being in the middle of a circular firing squad?

@kf+1jk3cefqc - good to know for those who handle clients in different time zones and are pressured to work outside those hours and data teams who work literal overnights.

With all the time they waste tracking us, they could hire people to do actual work instead of analyzing (aka spying).

To the last poster: Sapience is tracking hours worked before 7am and after 7pm for extra scrutiny, and that time does not count towards your 8 or 9 hrs daily. Just something you should know.

SVP wants report for X TODAY.

Drop everything.

Do it ASAP

Next day....
SVP WANTS REPORT FOR Y at 6 AM. NEEDS IT FOR 9 AM

Dont do any normal work. Rush around for escalated data or reporting requests.

SVP sees it and nothing happens

RINSE AND REPEAT. WHEN ARE YOU SUPPOSED TO GET REGULAR THINGS DONE?

Oh and he now needs another new report THIS WEEKEND - ON SUNDAY.

WTF?

Meanwhile we have new internal processes being developed by the seat of someone's pant and implemented with no notice. The clients experience ca not be good. It's no wonder clients are moving this gs in house or moving to a Fiserv competitor

But how can we determine velocity unless we create stories for everything and give them points? Once we know the velocity we can compare teams to each other and see the synergy in real time on the dashboard.

Try the waste of time creating jira stories when you can just do the job in less time than creating a task
