Wishing Intel the best in the foundry business. Hopefully they can get their act together and compete and eventually take leadership from TSMC and UMC. However, as @1hhy states they need to clean up leadership. Hiring O'Buckley is a good choice for IFS, he is a good customer focus person. However, they will need strong leadership in tech dev and PDK development to offer the best PDKs and the best differentiated technologies to get customers to change over to Intel from TSMC and Samsung. In addition, they will need older techs and specialized techs to make money in the automotive and RF world. GF still has some decent programs there and they have foundry business processes which Intel could use. I too think Intel buying GF not for the assets but for the IP and processes would be a good buy if the price is right. As for GF's fabs if Intel did acquire, they would probably shut down F9 (or sell to someone like OnSemi), who knows about F8, keep SGP fabs and keep Dresden fabs. The main thing Intel needs from GF is the technology recipes for BCD and RF (RF SOI and SiGe), the foundry business processes for PDK and customer support, they can manufacture the technologies in many of their own fabs. We will see how this all plays out.

@1yld, how is this the same post? Can't you read? Are you mentally challenged? If so, maybe you are part of GF's SLT ......

@1foo

No one cries like the one who still posts that has absolutely nothing to do with layoffs, on a site known for layoffs, for well over two years…. D0uch3b4g…

@keo+1ugvzTtn it's ironic that you keep spamming the same comment over and over again. Almost a bit excessive like a child crying....

Intel at their core is a technology company. They need to find their ways again and take back leading-edge leadership, before 10nm they were 1-2 nodes ahead of TSMC but they bet wrong on the timing of EUV and lost their technology lead and are now trailing TSMC. If Intel wants to get serious about foundry, they need to run the spin-off like a foundry with great PDKs and leadership technology. Intel should team up with IBM on the research of next gen techs and Intel should still buy GF and get rid of the entire SLT at GF and bring in execs from TSMC and UMC to really understand how to operate as a foundry who makes good profit margins (40%+).

from the article --->>>
GlobalFoundries remained a major manufacturing partner for AMD for a time after the spin off. But fairly quickly, GlobalFoundaries fell ever further behind in terms of chip manufacturing tech. Today, the two chiplets in a Ryzen 9000 CPU are made by TSMC, while GlobalFoundries' most advanced node is 12nm and it has been reduced to making cheaper legacy chips largely for non performance-critical applications.
