Thread regarding Alphabet Inc. (Google) layoffs

New employee here. If you are on a PIP at Google and then get a layoff notice does that nullify the PIP and you can come back to Google?

Or should I forget about coming back to Google and look into the OP post with Steps on how to become a Coal Miner and move from California to West Virigina? I used to drive a Backhoe and Combine so I think I can make it as a Coal Miner.

If you get a PIP at ANY company, that means one thing and one thing only...they want to fire you and this is step #1 in covering their @ss so you can't sue them. If you are on a PIP, start looking for another job. Take the month or two that they will use to write paperwork on why you need to be fired and try to get out BEFORE they can drop the axe. Otherwise perform it to the best of your ability and don't do anything stupid so at the very least they can't keep you from filing for unemployment. If you so much as swear at your manager when you are getting treated unfairly, you will be terminated with that given as the reason and will use it to make sure they don't have to pay out those unemployment benefits. Don't be stupid.

Wow I thought people were smart at google apparently not. Guess what you are not special and they have better lawyers and deeper pockets than you. There is this thing called at will employment. The sun came up and you cast a shadow bo-m you are gone. You could have walked on water and generated a billion dollars guess what that was yesterday and means nothing. On the flipside you can show the bird and walk out immediately. PIP is the oldest trick in the book to cull the herd. And cheaper than a layoff no severance. Rating is all a popularity contest has zero to do with actual performance. It has everything to do with how well you su-k up and stoke them egos of the decision makers. Why would you want to come back to a company that exterminated you? Unless the entire management churned same culture and guess what you are not part of the clique

Avoid coal mining. If you get PIP'd over there, it really does mean you need to improve.

@kbl+1qWc2Wkh is correct. I managed 5 programs with 3 projects each .. in total, 15 projects.. when I joined Fitbit, it was 3 years late.. in 8 months, it was out of the door. The list of accomplishments I did was gigantic .. they did not put me on the PIP, but they laid me off. I asked HR for my performance review, and it came out as "M". I had my cowardly and useless and lazy manager's email, so I emailed him how it would be possible to put me on "M" after everything I did. So, if they are putting you on PIP, pray to be laid off, otherwise they can get rid of you without severance. Talk to a lawyer, I am sure you will received the right orientation and if you can sue, just sue them. Few weeks ago a lot of remaining Fitbit employees with outstanding perf were laidoff too.

If you are on PIP, do NOT feel so bad or depressed. It's not you that needs to improve. It's an excuse by the company since they need to layoff a certain amount of people to keep the business going. They put you on PIP, so when they lay you off, they don't get sued. It's happening in many companies. What I hate is that the company is making you feel so bad by telling your that you are not performing well, when you are really doing just fine. Keep a copy of your past performance reviews and then gather all those who got a PIP and hire a lawyer to sue the company. Like I said, many companies are doing this these days especially if you are highly paid compared to others in your team. They hired so many people with high salaries during covid, that now they need to get rid of either the employees over 50, those who have been with the company for many years, etc. Please do not feel bad if you get a PIP. Just start looking for another job while you still have the current job.
