Thread regarding HP (Hewlett-Packard) layoffs

@k3 yeah that isn't how it works, your manager was just trying to blame a faceless "HR" in order to avoid their own discomfort and conflict. If anything, HR leans the other direction when a manager is attempting to exit a legitimate performance problem - requiring a long paper trail, extended PIPs, etc. even when everyone know ls what the outcome will be. It's their job to de-risk any employment issues, and wrongful/discriminatory termination suits is part of that, which can still be a thing in an at-will location.

Yes, it isn't always the manager's decision, in most cases they are given a reduction target, but that is coming from your business leadership, not HR. And yes, when moving to a ratings-based system, if a manager is given a target, that is going to default to the lowest rated individuals on the team.

Yep. I was laid off from HP and my manager told me that HR will look for anything on your performance reviews to lay you off. It doesn’t even have to be anything negative. If you have something as simple as your manager giving you advice on how to improve, HR will see it as bad. It can also be performance reviews from previous years. It’s all fair game for HR.

So glad to be gone from this backstabbing company.

Yeah that’s why our SMART goals must have a deadline so when we don’t meet it, they fire us. Also this f-c king stacking system is gonna be terrible. Let’s start by firing all the loons that pushed AI so hard because let’s be real, consumers don’t want bloatware AI loaded into our already POS PCs. I am embarrassed to work at a company which such worthless products. Let’s also fire all the middle managers who sit around deciding on their pathetic slide decks. Then let’s clean house and starting firing employees outside of the USA.
