@yp thank you. That makes sense!

Office Location is not the same as Business City

If your Office Location ends with 950 you are a telecommuter (no expectation of RTO)

If you are a 950, the system codes the Business City where there is a UHC office (and may not be even the office location nearest to you)

@k3 - I would not worry over this. I think that they are just throwing office locations out there with no thought on distance.

My office changed to a location where (if I had to report) would have to pass two (2) closer UHC locations.

@h9 correct on both. -----1000 went away with myHR. No hidden message. --950s are telecommuting coded.

@k3 don’t put to much stock in this. They have a default location. I’m remote in mn for UHC but show as “assigned” to the optum campus in Eden Prairie even though my boss is at the Minnetonka UHC headquarters 2 miles from optum.

@jz my location also had the -1000 removed. Just checked and my secure profile shows I’m assigned to an office two hours away as of 6/26/25.

@h9 : Different from the other post, but I noticed all people in my organization suddenly no long has -1000 after the telecommute code (e.g MN950, FL950, TX950).

Then I looked at secure / employee details and suddenly now I have an office address 3 hours away. Still telecommute. Not sure what this means. Will they get us to move close to the office where none of us is there.

Seems like office will be in Tampa for Florida, San Antonio for TX, etc. Maybe you all can check and share information to crosscheck but UHG is super shady now, doing lots of things behind the scene.

@df Those without an office or hybrid destination will be looking at lay off eventually.

@ha Ireland is a no go - maybe a well liked SD or VP, but most are true believer muricans that wouldn't leave. Ireland is paid/cost the same as USA but are considered more efficient. Muricans would bring them down. They also have real labor rights and UHG would never sponsor a visa. If you do "two weeks working holiday" that USA employees get on Sparq, you have to prove you have the right to work wherever you go which is pretty much just dual citizens.

However, if leadership had their way, we'd have 10k SLT/ELT in USA, 20k 27ish-32 in Ireland/UK and 400k 28 and below in India/Philippines. If they weren't unbelievably parochial and incapable of doing business internationally, they'd replace Ireland tech staff with IT teams in the Baltics.

@dp Or Ireland LOL. Not sure if UHG will pull an Amazon and force people to move or resign, but as this point, I guess anything is possible. We're a bit different though wherein we've had remote workers WELL before COVID, so we're not quite those other companies. In 2025, though, does this matter?. Who knows.

@dh That could just be due to MyHR though. As far as I know TX950 (and the like) is a generic "office" used for telecommuters. It doesn't represent a real office location.

Do they even have the space to accommodate that many people in the office? I understand the point is to get people to quit, but if even half of the telecommuters took them up on this offer and showed up at the office, I’m not sure there’d be enough desks.

@df
First they came for the MN/DC Hybrid workers,
and I did not speak out—
because I was not a hybrid or near MN/DC.

Then they came for the anyone within 50 miles of MN/DC,
and I did not speak out—
because I was not within 50 miles of MN/DC.

Then they came for the anyone within 50 miles of any office,
and I did not speak out—
because I was not within 50 miles of any office.

Then they came for me—
and they forced everyone to relocate to within 50 miles of a USA office or move to India or the Philippines and take a 80% pay cut.

@df they recently made some changes in my Secure profile where I’m still a telecommuter but location is TX950 and no longer TX950-1000 😓

I'm pretty sure that this return to the office is only for those with an office or hybrid designation in their HR profile.

If you are designated a telecommuter [Work Location xx950-1000] - this does not apply to you.

@cv

50 miles is quite a lot one way and I am thinking if you can't do it then it's lay off

The point of this exercise is to inflict as much pain as possible so people quit without being laid off, so 50 miles sounds about right to me. And to reiterate, they’ve done this before.

What is the mileage out within a location?

Not sure about this time around, but in the past they've said 50 miles.

Any idea what radius they will use from an office to determine who has to return?

Is this where UHG has invested into the most real estate?
