Accenture Job Cuts Clear the Room for Reskilling Employees Who Can Keep Up

Accenture job cuts are in the news once more, and this time, there are conversations on reskilling occurring parallelly as we speak. During an earnings call on Thursday, Accenture acknowledged that it is “exiting” employees who cannot be retrained for artificial intelligence skills, according to Business Insider. The Accenture layoffs have defined its AI era, with sweeping cuts that have reportedly affected about 22,099 jobs in the last two quarters. As of August 2025, the company’s headcount stands at 779,000, a steep drop from the 801,099 reported in February.

If Musk, Zuck, Altman, etc talk about AI and untrainable employees, maybe?

But when a lawyer goes around talking about untrainable in tech, what does she really know exactly? she's relying on Lan Guan, but she was promoted 2 years ago. The market still took them by surprise 2 years later.

I told my manager that I have pre-ordered Neuralink chip for my work. I will be definitely AI ready when they go on sale sometime next year.

New roles of corporate workplace loyalty. It's not personal.

All the best to you moving forward.

Ah, yep, but not at the very top though who are almost all 50s and 60s though, 'cos they are unique, y'all.

Replace young with cheap(er), cheaper (for anything).

The company has been losing customers (62 = 32+30 in the past 2 Q's, accounts over $100m).
Making anything AI-related is supposedly cool and the bet is on a higher tag price per project, but with cheaper manpower (the messaging has been filled with buzzwords, including a "new era", "ACN is re-inventing itself"... again).

What labels an employee as “untrainable”?
Is it those who refuse to learn AI or just the older employees that they are trying to get rid of anyway to make room for younger people.

"Sweet’s typically eloquent and bullish pitch as part of Accenture’s Q3 earnings call didn’t pay too much attention to a second consecutive quarterly drop in new bookings, although Wall Street investors picked up on this and sent the share price down post-results announcement. Now it’s not a massive drop - 30 clients recorded quarterly bookings of greater than $100 million, compared with 32 in the previous quarter - but when you’re talking about that size of contract, it counts.

Anyway, onwards to the re-invented next iteration of Accenture."

The organization didn't prepare, so yes, expect along those numbers (let's not forget the divestitures, more may come as there will be no ROI, precisely due to the former)

I would just like to say two things:

1) I'm sorry that this happened to you and based on your profile it goes to show that the "AI untrainable" excuse is exactly that, an excuse
2) Some people still want to rationalize it, such as "it's so tough to be Julie", "just train on AI, get some training from the website people, go and smell the roses" (written on a website that is all about sharing layoff information and layoff data, lol), the reality on the field is people just like you, meaning, staying or leaving doesn't make one group better than the other, we are all just numbers

Thank you once again for sharing and wish you the very best.

@a2 No . I have no need now to do AI, they found out that I can't be trained in AI(Have 25 Years of IT experience, last 22 Years in the SAP MM , WM& SD as a Functional Architect), joined ACN 8 Years ago as a manager and moved on as a Sr. Manager. Today I got that news thru outlook, 13th October will be my last day at this great organization, see you all & Good Luck ( I was prepared for the last 7 Months)
