In order to be a high performer at Intel you need to be a politician and get your nose as brown as possible.
People who enjoy meetings should not be in charge of anything.
@3kbu you're a high performer based on their standards. Hear that fish rots from the head? there you go
@3ier just because you're in bed with the high and mighty doesn't mean you're a high performer. More often than not it means that you're an overpaid brown nosing Peter puffer.
When you are in with the high and mighty that’s when you know.
Because my boss only works two hours a day. I obviously must be doing something right.
@1nsl+1ouIrmXX, @1nsl+1ouIrmXX:
His wife is less happy, I’ll admit. I am a conservative kind of guy, and always try to do mine first. His goes second, and I sometimes have to do overtime there to get a “meets expectations” to keep the job.
First, you believe you are one. Most people think highly of themselves. No brainer here. Second, your manager if he is fair and objective, but he could be biased because you two are good buddies for example. Third, your peers commend you, but they do not know what your level/grade is, so you are doing what you are expected/paid to.
Unfortunately, all that matters these days is if you check the right boxes and know the right people... You could be a Memeologist from MIT and score a job at FAANG where the primary job responsibilities are tasting all the different foods in the cafeteria, seeing how many miles you can walk around your office, and joining as many meetings as possible to seem relevant.
Very rare to see merit decisions in large corporations these days.
why does that matter
nowadays you are judged for other reasons
and your stock is pumped up for other reasons
like a good DEI report
merit sadly is a thing of the past
@jwb That's me! You're describing me! I'm a high performer!
If you answer yes to most of the following, then you are a high performer: is your manager your friend or family, are you political, spend all day creating power points, are you able to navigate the system, do you quid pro quo, do you attend peanut gallery meetings
Promotions, QPB+, etc.
This year there is Insight and performance review
There is no real objective measure.
People come to you with questions, you solve your tasks, to do the OKRs, you can work with “client”, you fulfill Intel values. You can resolve any issue happening ad-hoc, you know who to pull in into problem solving etc. etc.*
- This do not include h1bs - with h1b mgmt in chain - they are always high performing even if they don’t.
Feedback from managers, directors. Endless extra work being piled on.
Officially, you rely on feedback from your manager. People notice more than you think and like to talk, so you can your coworkers who do they think is helpful or really knowledgeable. See if anyone would categorize you that way
