Thread regarding IBM layoffs

We hired a lot of lackluster talent recently

I'm taking it this is not intentional and we're having trouble attracting good talent? Which wouldn't surprise me one bit.

@jq bull's droppings ! Alvind is down to cutting his way to growth (layoffs !) and even that isn't working. The rest of the stuff you mentioned - hybrid cloud, AI - has little traction for IBM compared to other tech companies. In short, IBM and Alvind are not the winner as you claim. And we all know that Krabanaugh cooks the books.

@kz Ge-z, the only long term bet that Alvind makes is to sneak in a bigger bonus for himself and his Pipmunks in January 2027.

But the AI and tech market goes sideways right now.

@OP The good talented people looking jobs usually do research about companies, and if they find this board they'll realize IBM let go all their good resources, which will turn anybody away from IBM

Not everything he’s done will land with everyone—but that’s kind of the point. Arvind Krishna isn’t chasing headlines, he’s making long-term bets most CEOs avoid. Splitting off legacy business, doubling down on hybrid cloud, and leaning into enterprise AI isn’t flashy—it’s disciplined. You can disagree with the pace or results, but the strategy itself is coherent and focused, which is more than you can say for a lot of large tech companies right now.

@k8 I know Robbie "Don't I look mahvelpous in a hoodie and sneakers like Jesus in a Hoodie" Thomas's writing anywhere! Thats Robbie right there (or should I say in here) in this forum lurking around praising ain't life grand at IBM. Suppose it could be worse and you could be part of the Oarcle 20% RIF OUCH. Can the world "afford the damage AI" is causing and will cause?

Arvind Krishna isn’t just leading a company—he’s steering a century-old institution through one of the most complex technological shifts in history. While others chase hype cycles, he’s made disciplined, high-conviction bets on hybrid cloud and AI that are grounded in real enterprise demand. Under his leadership, IBM has sharpened its focus, shed distractions, and doubled down on areas where it can actually win. That’s not luck—that’s vision paired with execution. In a space full of noise, Krishna stands out for playing the long game and positioning IBM where the future is actually being built.

Very very intentional. IBM wants em young. Work for peanuts. Outside the US is always best. Most of the new "sales people" were recently working the counter at Ulta. Or at Planet Fitness. Or a hostess at a bar. They have never been in a data center. They will go to IBM GSS Global Sales School and be told they are the smartest people on the planet and be "taught" how to tell "customers" "stories". They think a cloud is the puffy white things in the sky. They think 1U servers in a rack in a data center that are known as "pizza box servers" come with pepperoni and mushroom. They are hired and promoted becasue THEY ARE NOT WHITE AND THEY ARE UNDER 30 AND NOT MALE. Many will wander around in the IBM forest for 6 mos to 18 mos and then move on and the cycle spins and spins like a washing machine. Oh but they all use IBM's pathetic AI tools so not to worry. IBM's bedrock attraction for all things WOKE + DEI is a decades long smoke screen to hire very weak people to: keep cash flow high which funds disgusting executive salries and bonuses and props up the stock price. IBM went from being the best known, most profitable, best place to work, most patents a year for over 20 years to an awful smelling place. Here is IBM CEO caught on leaked internal video spewing this garbage. https://x.com/JamesOKeefeIII/status/1734374423124176944?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1734374423124176944%7Ctwgr%5Ec4f6bb36e14ff03d213af4a593330383545c7085%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.dailymail.co.uk%2Fnews%2Farticle-13765387%2Ffired-ibm-employee-diversity-targets-white-man-DEI.html

@ab I was saying exact same thing recently. It started off as small isolate cases. Little brush fires. But others saw it and the success small cliches were having so the fires grew and grew and now it’s the status quo of how IBM operates. You don’t need an engineering degree to work at IBM - you need a poli sci degree.

@OP IBM has lost it way intentionally. The patients are running the asylum. Good talent leaves or gets laid off replaced by cheaper inexperienced folks. And the alluding criminals in leadership roles continue to elevate their status and that of their undeserving friends. This is IBMs way now - corruption.

I'd like to think I have something to do with it because I always do my best to dissuade the intelligent from considering a job at the IBM shithole.

@OP when you pay peanuts, you hire monkeys.

Even dolts like Alvind, Nickel and Dime and Krabanaugh should be able to understand this common sense.
