A Future as Broadcom Software Employees

After all the VMW layers of senior and middle manager employees are cut, what is left? A disillusioned and broken workforce with no future prospects. That's not my future.

Broadcom Sofware is the place where good ideas go to die and spineless people wait to retire. I don't want to be one of those pitiful souls. Give me a severance package NOW.

@wgz+1ppDAOcf Nice Hock Tan coolaid. The only "good" thing about working at Broadcom is TC and they don't even compared to FAANG level or other real tech companies with high TC, good work-life-balance, career progression, and cutting edge products.

So basically there is no upside to working at Avgo at all

The only reason why BC Software employees don’t get recruited by other companies is because those Corp usually can’t get near the total comp for the same level nor one level above. Too often recruiters don’t want to take a risk and have a person as a bet on a higher level role.

In my BU only senior managers and above got offers and they do nothing normally . ICs were chopped.
We must have really smart or really selfish management that took care of themselves at the cost of their team

Personally my biggest concern is that BCs plan appears to be to ki-l off R&D to “save money”… talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face.

I took the job at VMW (~18 years ago) because the tech was innovative and interesting. And while we’re not doing the kinds of big things we were, one of the things that’s kept me interested is that I get to work on new stuff pretty regularly. In the past three years I’ve been involved in three new projects where I was learning new(ish) tech.

Assuming this closes and Hock implements his plan to turn VMW into some sort of zombie legacy software company, I won’t be staying. Not because of BCs “culture” (which we all know is… sun-optimal) but because I work in tech both for money and because I like learning new stuff. Im not interested in working for what is essentially a patent-rental company.

I'm nowhere near retirement age, and I really enjoy working on modern tech projects.

broadcom employee here...

i'm 2 years til retirement so resting and vesting. making lots of money and working a basic 40 hour week. i was part of CA, but was only there a short time before we got acquired.

look..if your under 40...it's not the place to grow any kind of career. if you're between 40-55... personal decision on what makes most sense financially and career-wise.. prob best to move on but don't wait too long.. 55+... you're in position to FIRE. so that's goodness...

What a complete load of nonsense. As you have obviously never hired anyone in your young professional career, you have no idea what recruiters and employers look for. Having Broadcom on your CV will not do you any harm. Bad attitude and superiority complex will though!

The current Broadcom Software employees don't boast about working there, and keep a low profile on sites like LinkedIn because they're not proud of the company's reputation.

Also, there's a reason why Broadcom Software employees don't get recruited by more progressive and growing tech employers. Once you have them on your CV, its over.

As a young professional in the UK, this is the main reason why I don't want to stay, the compensation offered doesn't matter. I don't want to be associated with this company.

I agree. Getting severance, whether voluntary or not, is a blessing in disguise. A lot of folks mentioned visa issues, but wirh Broadcom you will constantly live in fear of losing your job anyways. If you get laid off on say November or December (assuming the deal clears and Broadcom takes a few weeks to send out severance letter), you will be on payroll until almost mid-to-end of jan or feb nexr year, which is the time when companies get fresh budget and hiring starts rolling. This is not a bad timeframe to get back into the job market especially as inflation is slowing down and fed is expected to stop rate hikes, thus putting end to the "year of efficiency"
