Seems like several have heard the axe will start swinging next week for US and Canada.
Good luck to everyone in the US (Especially those of us that deemed to be too old).
If I’m laid off I am going to ask if I can have the cash equivalent for the Robert Half services that are being given to us. Their services are just more performative BS that allows CK and his henchpeople to look like they kind of care about that they are kicking into the trashcan.
When we all know that much of this is age discrimination in the NA region. Why are we not looking at class action lawsuit?
We should.
Just heard from a manager that next week is the week, with maybe some areas as early as tomorrow.. good luck
Rumor is that NA will see the layoffs 4/12 and continue through 4/15.
Good luck everybody.
You'd never know that mass layoffs are afoot based on the tone of one of JW's managers on a recent conference call with her team.
She took the time to wax poetic over her recent vacation trip to Portugal. She excitedly shared with her team that she visited Porto and got to drink Port.
Oh, and so did her kids. How fun!
So I guess this means everything's looking up this week.
California WARN was posted Feb-23, 2023. I heard of my layoff on Feb-9, 2023. We will then read of WARN for SAP likely also after we already heard from SAP in 2024.
@jne+1rWvY0zN That is part of the criticism that the European works council expressed in their Sharepoint statement: Project 2023 was a failure, and 2024 looks like a pure cost-cutting exercise with little strategy behind it.
Perhaps enough teammates took the VERP and they are trying to see if they can still run the US business?
One thing that's interesting from a US perspective is that there's nothing in the WARN database (warntracker dot com) for SAP America. True, they can give employees 60 days pay and benefits as severance and avoid notifying, but SAP issued a WARN notification for the 2023 layoffs. It's strange that they wouldn't do the same this time.
Can't draw any conclusions from that, but it's still interesting if there's a major purge coming.
So the leaders at SAP learned nothing from the layoff in 2023? Sounds about right.
The Works Council represents numerous European countries, not just Germany. You, US guys, tend to forget, that besides Germany, France and UK, SAP is present in plenty of other countries in Europe.
“Legitimate question - What does the Works Council have to do with US? I have been here 15 years, and have never heard of them having any influence or input on US contracts.”
Very legitimate question. I think it points to the fact that across all regions this will drag on. Yes, US VERP now, perhaps US layoffs 2nd half of April… but then drip drip drip globally as organizations evolve/devolve. This is just a gut feeling. I don’t think they had this all that well thought out. So while the greatest impact in the US may be now, I think colleagues here will have this hanging over their heads for quite some time.
Again… just a gut feeling but I think the word from the Works Council is very telling, and provides insight into the somewhat “seat of their pants” nature of the (in)decision process.
Sadly, even in a company of silos these things don’t happen in a vacuum.
@ywv+1rWvY0zN I was thinking the same. I’m thinking that the Works Council’s projection for the timeline of layoffs extending into Q1 2025 is Germany-specific?
Legitimate question - What does the Works Council have to do with US? I have been here 15 years, and have never heard of them having any influence or input on US contracts.
So even if your in the 8000 they are also saying that some people may be forced to work for longer to provide business continuity.
"The word from the works council was that this restructuring will continue into Q1 2025… so even if you survive April I don’t think it’s a guarantee that you’re safe until next March/April."
So another new round of layoffs next year? Or just the 8000 staggered over this year and next?
The word from the works council was that this restructuring will continue into Q1 2025… so even if you survive April I don’t think it’s a guarantee that you’re safe until next March/April.
Everything is a secret so far. No information , communication. Those who know say , we are not supposed to give out details and rest of us are looking into websites like this for any leaks.
I am not sure if we survive April rest of the year looks ok.
How is this week looking?
