Good to hear from the Ricoh Unicorn and Rainbow department. Glad to hear everything is perfect there. We can only hope we see more blockbuster acquisitions like Anajet or Mindshift.
So what do you think the opportunity for 3D printers. I remember the 2 we sold a couple of years ago. It made all the Ricoh communication streams. Haven't heard much since. What is the next 100+ unit install on the forecast. What do you think the ration of 3D printers to MFPs will be. Maybe if everything is optimum 5000 MFPs for every 3D printer. I think that is even a pipe dream. I may not be clued into the industry as deep as you, but I do know that there currently companies manufacturing everything from small DIY 3D printers to machines that make aircraft quality parts. It is not a wide open field.
In reality here is how I see it going based on past experience. A sales rep will have an opportunity to sell 1 machine. Sales will promise this will be the first of hundreds sold. The machine most likely will be on the edge of our service territory and require 24/7 coverage. TS will pay training costs of airfare, hotel and per diem for 4 technicians. Since we have no experience on the machine the roll out will be troublesome. The customer will have an under trained staff who prefers to place calls after hours as impacts their workflow less. The sales rep who over stated the capabilities of the machine will they claim they can't sell anymore because this has gone so bad.
As far as being unwanted that is probably true, but I'm not offended by the comment. Truth is nearly every Ricoh employee is unwanted, they are just used for what ever ability is needed at the time. Some of the most unwanted employees are many of the top selling sales reps. They are just tolerated because of what they bring in. I have heard that Ricoh has done a study of what various employees make compared to similar positions at other companies and industries. The result is they believe most sales and TS employees are overpaid. Let's see how wanted they are when the new comp plan comes out.
