Thread regarding Truist Bank layoffs

Performance Matters

The untruthful phrase being regurgitated through the lips of many managers is that Performance Matters. The truth is that performance doesn't matter at Truist and leadership has made this crystal clear over the years. They use this phrase as a tool to shame others not meeting unrealistic goals while also using fear to discipline those who aren't doing as they are told. It's a culture of do what you're told or else. If you do everything right and meet the unrealistic goals consistently for years, you surely will not be promoted, receive raises that are larger than others or be recognized or rewarded. You'll only have no heat for the time being. This isn't a culture of performance matters but a culture of do what you're told or else.

Myself and other peers who have top percentile performance at Truist are all starting to notice this. We all continue to wonder why we are always lied to every year that we will be promoted or receive a good raise. We all wonder why we don't receive the recognition or rewards that we deserve. The leadership at Truist is excellent at fostering a culture of mediocrity because they make it crystal clear to top performers that they don't want to see the performance repeated by how they treat those who meet the expectations in a highly toxic and dysfunctional environment.

Saying performance matters is catchy but let's get real, you're not going to be treated well for performing stellar. They only use this phrase as a free pass to coach people into oblivion and discipline the 90% who are "off track".

They talk about a home run year but I think teammates need to run home this year and reevaluate our employment options. A year to elevate is clear, it's one to continue to elevate managers and you'll be left behind as always.

Your sanity isn't worth it. You don't need to meet "their expectations". Frankly they don't care that's why they will not take care of you when you perform stellar. It's all a show to shame and use fear to 90% of the teammates.

What's your thoughts on a culture of mediocrity and performance not mattering?

@jkb+1spZp0p3 I used to respond to my reviews until a 15 year vet at TIS said they never bothered, and it hasn’t been mentioned once (now notice they were BB&T). Last year I tried it and nothing said. Same thing this year. One thing that is constantly being pushed on CSA’s is how many NIGO’s you rack up. Doesn’t matter if the FA caused it or other extenuating circumstances. One CSA had on her goals to have less NIGOs. Only matters is what keeps you off the cut sheet. But then it depends more on who you know and who you work for. Been there. Lived it.

I came up with several creative ways to reduce costs for the bank branch network in 2023. We tracked the actual savings, which were far more than my salary.

A smart company would reward someone who is basically costing the company nothing given the savings realized from their ideas, but Truist? "You are just average and deserve a meager 2% increase".

Guess how many new ideas I'll try to come up with in 2024?? You got it, ZERO.

The sad truth of banking. I do think it’s got worse here than I have seen elsewhere. Really bizarre leadership tactic. Having a bunch of unhappy
employees does not lead to good results.

Their commercials show it to be an absolute joke of a bank. They sound more like a social service. I would never bank there myself.

Should you even bother providing feedback for performance reviews. This echos a recent town hall meeting, where everyone had their job threatend, by statements that executives are looking for any reason to outsource and if you know what's good for you, you will keep your head down and do as you are told.
