Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

I am Ex Dell

As the title says, I am ex Dell, not afraid to be truthful here. I was a 2nd line manager in Nashville with 17 years of service. I was cut in Feb and have already landed in a great role. Not here to troll, but what’s up with every post about ex Dell being obsessed with HR?

No one is safe right now including HR. My HR business partner was cut in Feb along with the rest of us. Do current Dell employees come on this site to defend a vile culture that pays for falsified tell dell results? I know for a fact that no one is safe, cuts in August are projected between 6-8% These are conservative numbers, they will axe entire segments without blinking and eye. They only one I am positive on being gone is SPS in commercial sales.

Ex Dell always seem to struggle to move on with their lives and yearn for their glory days…how unbecoming

@1tdn+1nHuBNzx - this is Dell. If this, Fishbowl, Blind, or are very own existence has taught us at this company who's leaders haven't understood technology in decades there is no living better. Clearly we all have some significant childhood trauma or we'd be working for security software companies who are growing double digits YoY instead of pretending to find Jeff's t-shirts funny.

@1pqg+1nHuBNzx Don't worry about my networking. Read the OP's post " I know for a fact that no one is safe, cuts in August are projected between 6-8%" and other posts projecting %. Go and live better.

@jbu+1nHuBNzx - expand your network - there were ghost layoffs March, April, and May. Nobody hear know the % for the entire company but some may know % for their teams.

@dke+1nHuBNzx In this current condition, layoffs may happen but no one knows when and the % cut. It is very compartmentalized. That's why it's very amazing to see the % cut and date spoilers. Everyone knows sales are down but no one knows the layoffs date or % cut. After Feb layoffs, it was projected for Apr, June, July and now August. Good luck and all the best to everyone.

@uop+1nHuBNzx Do you think nothing will happen?
Genuine question.

It's amazing ex Dell knows more about Dell layoffs than the current Dell employees. They may have really good contacts but still surprised they know more about future Dell layoffs - with date and % cut

I am really looking forward to being Ex Dell. Hopefully soon.

I agree with many of the comments that Dell has become a Toxic environment. I mentor a few software developers who are recent College graduates, my advice to them is to get your 2 years and sign up for every class you can and then leave.

If I had been able to talk to them before they had joined I would have asked what other offers they had and if any were half decent I would have said to take one of them.

Good to see some decent posts on this.
Dell has become a very toxic enviroment to work.
Every quarter we do more with less and the more has increased ten fold over the last year.
While I will be nervous to leave and go back out into the job market I think it is time for a lot of people.
Sales are down a vast amount and the pressure is ever increasing in all areas.
Life is too short to be unhappy so I wait and see what the next few weeks hold.

I am also an ex Dell (Country Director DCS) cut in February. Zoom call happened with my manager (VP) and HR... Great, I had an unformal prewire from my ex-boss. It gave me the time to contact a lawyer, and receive advices on how to handle the situation.
That HR call was planned months before ; I realized that the GM and VP planned a 'post-HR- call' with my team 6 weeks in advance.
Anyway, I am positive. Dell colleagues were more than great, but Dell was becoming a toxic environment, without a real strategy, except making more money with less (and less less).
There is a life outside Dell, there are other employers, and the future of IT is defintively not in Hardware resell :) AI, Automation... is welcoming you.

I am also ex dell, not bitter, I don't understand all those posts, must be the same person. I was terminated on a Wednesday, was a regular zoom meeting request from my manager, I think the day before. I knew something was wrong when I noticed a third person I didn't know on the call. I was read the script by my manager, very cold, HR was the third person on the zoom, it was uncomfortable. Package was good, I was over 25 years, but health care coverage su-ked. They wouldn't even cover me and my family for the rest of the month that I was let go. Cobra kicked in on the day of my official termination and Dell paid for the first 8 weeks but you still have to apply for it, and it is not cheap, at least your existing deductibles still count

Thanks for posting this. There is so much nonsense on this forum.

May I ask you a few questions?

When you received your calendar “invite”, was it in advance or the day of? What day of the week was it? What was it titled? And was your termination immediate or did you finish the week (or more?)

I’m so glad you landed a great role. I think it’s a mix of folks landing on their feet or they are still looking. :-(

I’ve been looking for about six weeks in anticipation of this and so far, nadda. All of this is causing a lot of stress.

Thanks for sharing and agree with your other comments!
