Thread regarding Optum layoffs

UHG UHC layoffs?

Are layoffs happening as frequent with the UHH/C folks or is it primarily only Optum? Their layoff boards don’t have nearly as much noise as this one.

@jb
I'm on the UHC side and in leadership meeting earlier this week they said Optum was having a good Q1 so far profit wise. Comment came from pretty high level exec.

Anyway agree that they have an aggressive "operating expense" goal and that means big RIFs.

If you follow the earnings calls and the financial reporting for UHG- UHC and Optum, it is easy to see who will get cut. Also, when and where. When a company reports a net margin of 2.7% profit and says it has to “find” almost $2B with a B in SG&A in 2026 - you know that is basically all payroll. I. E. Employees. Optum has not been hitting its numbers, more specifically, OH and OI so that is where you start. It’s all numbers folks.

It all depends what you do for UHC vs Optum. UHC seems to restructure a lot. I loved my Optum team but they were RIFed or restructured (we were an acquisition). I am on UHC and over here my pay grade and role generally pays less than what it did on Optum so thats disappointing. I was told I am on the higher end for my pay for this level over here where I was on the lower end at Optum.

@an+1,
Must just be your department
My team is more demanding and traumatizing than Optum. I was able to have actually autonomy and always got good performance and QA reviews and leadership actually had an idea of what they’re talking about. Now at UHC these managers barely became managers back in October, they change policies and processes every single week they hold hour long meetings weekly for BS reasons then say the queue is increasing, you have to report to 8 supervisors who don’t know what they he-l they are even Doing or talking about and they are more focused in you having a camera on during a meeting then you know actually getting their cr-p together and making the job aid flow smoothly.

@OP Hemsley said that changes would be happening on the United side but that Optum was being "fast tracked".

They have layoffs, but you’re right, it isn’t nearly as much as Optum, and I’m saying this as someone who switched from Optum to UHC. They have better team cultures too. I realized when I switched to UHC that I was traumatized by the Optum culture. I didn’t have to overwork myself, people don’t work in the evenings after dinner or on the weekends.
