Thread regarding 3M layoffs

RTO - Five Days a Week

Anyone else hearing rumblings of RTO five days a week?

If true, 3M is returning to the Stone Age and this is BB attempt at getting more people to quit. What a joke.

@j7 I was hired remote in a different state so why should I have to move when I get all work done and more from where I am located. I worked in an office for years but get more accomplished working remote. I dont get sick as often so less sick days. Overall, I find more people pay attention in a teams meeting versus in person. Working remotely 2 or 3 days was before covid and its a shame that people are forced to go back to the office now.

@j7 I'm fine with that if we also apply the rule to our Indian contractors.

If they can't come into the office in St. Paul to "collaborate" then they need to go.

Why is it so important for us who have the misfortune of being physically near the PFAS dumping grounds, but cheap international labor is fine to stay remote?

@hv I do hope that is the case and none of this BS for people who live too far away, office or out no exceptions. Move closer to an office if you want to keep your job and ensure plenty EV charging points and whilst we are at it better food and drink that doesn’t take all my pay check. Same rules for all sites, fed up of some people constantly getting exceptions, if your face fits you can do what you like everyone else gets shafted,

@OP 100% this is going to happen globally , they are already putting the plans place to increase space. BB is prepared to spend money to get the likes of Germany and UK working full time in the offices again.

The 5 day RTO will be the first task of the new CHRO to announce.

Pre-pandemic many of us were allowed to work from home one or two days a week.

Then the pandemic hit and we all went to totally remote.

Going back to five days RTO is just yet another example about how 3M under BB is a shadow of the company it used to be. Worse than it's been in 20 years.

Fine. But then don't expect us to give up all our personal time. You don't get it both ways. If we can't work from home, then we can't work from home. That means when I leave the office, I'm done. No expecting me to call into meetings late at night or wee hours of morning. No meetings outside of the "normal" 10 hour workday. If we can't work at home, then expectations need to adjust on all ends.

What I am not reading in this RTO thread is the obvious which has already been happening for sometime with all these quiet and subtle layoffs...working the equivalent of 6 days a week. By necessity most of the worker bees are at 50-6 hours just to maintain operations. Why you might ask? Well the answer is classic and simple and that's simply that work was not taken out of the system as we have endured the endless quiet and subtle layoffs and downsizing.

Raise your hand to ask the question on priorities and how to maintain with less and you find yourself on the list to get optimized and then performance managed out of a job.

@e0 which hill would you prefer we die on then? The one where they took pensions away? The one where they removed investment opportunities for higher technical levels? The one where they are farming most new positions outside of the US? The one where they’re quietly firing just enough people every month to not have to report it? Should I keep going?

Just go to the damn office. There are other hills to die on when hating the company. Ge-z.

Its a big promotion for the new CHRO. All the existing HR SVP have to submit to her.

@b8 the new CHRO got a big pay jump, moving from VP to executive VP role in 3M. For sure, she will do whatever BB says.

@a4

How about a trade? Five day RTO for me, no bootlicking for you? But alas, how would you ever survive on your own merits...😅😆😅

Of course it’s coming. Agree it’s the first thing the new HR lady will do whether it’s her own idea or Bill idea.

I think its time to mandate 5 days RTO. Imagine it could drive up share price with the productivity gain. The new CHRO will join and implement this.
