IBP stood for Integrated Business Process, but for those of us who had to do the actual work, it really stood for I'm Being Punished. CSD had a person who was supposed to manage the Division's IBP process, but instead pushed her work out to the marketers to complete. This person's advancement (or even employment) was a joke and created unnecessary work for those who were already stretched too far.

My manager loves consultants. I thought I was hired for my many years of experience but I am so micromanaged at 3M and harassed by my manager I am unable to get anything done. The consultant my manager hired (my manager is an SVP) has no clue what my team and I do. I do all of the work for the consultant and all he does is add my slides to his deck. I am treated like I am an id--t by my manager and the consultant is viewed with respect. I would give anything to be treated with the same level of respect as the consultants are treated at 3M.

It’s super interesting that the post on IBP and SDS was removed. So, I’ll repost for the OP. 3M spent MILLIONS on consultants for IBP implementation to have it as OP stated, “deep six’d” by incoming external leadership. Now that entire high performing team is gone save one person.

It is long past time to cut out all of the bullsh!t spending on consultants and the wasteful spending on it. Not only can 3M not afford this level of spending, the customer is not willing to pay for it. Time for people that are paid the highest salary's to start delivering some ideas and actual actions, to move the company forward. Earn your damn salary's and have some accountability and stop passing the buck to outsiders. That is easy to pass the buck. If the last five years have proved anything, the millions spent on outside consultants, that balooned payroll and their high cost have not only not delivered measurable, effective results for customers or employees and shareholders all it has done is waste limited resources. Spending on outsiders that deliver no impact is stale and has proven beyond wasteful. Everyone is tired of the lame excuses and woe is me cr-p. It's time to stop paying lip service to customer service and start selling products. 3M needs to deliver on these promises of being laser focused, and sell more of people want and when they want it, otherwise it is all meaningless words. Cut the sh!t talk, make stuff cheaper and start selling some actual volume. We can do this if we stop wasting time on meaningless waste and beauracracy useless talk. Talk is cheap, get us some volume.

All the failed programs in the past: LSS, DFSS, A3M, SAP, IBP, 3MEX, resulted in many casualties.

They spent A LOT of $$$ on consultants to implement integrated business planning and supply demand synchronization. As soon as Brigg and Hammes left the org and Peter and Scott came in they deep six’d it after 4 years with no explanation other than “they didn’t understand it.”
