Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Optum Tech 2025 vision

2025 strategy.

  1. Only US based hiring for slt and above
  2. All other workers will be hired in IR and IN. Some support work in PH.

Expect some really d-mb mo--ns to be hired at slt level. Mba or ex consulting types. They will act as my yes men and parrot whatever i read on last months HBR. 100x

Nothing will change, day to day employee life will su-k. But atleast we can look forward to my quarterly self congratulatory funny video/Town hall.

Yes lists is already prepared - positions have been identified; middle managers are identifying the individuals now. Layoffs will occur before bonus is paid out. Thank you all for the hardwork.

Anyone in the US getting a 3 or 2 rating last year/this year is likely out.

@irr+1vCjcaxh - it's already devastating. The offshore Wipro team members have proven to be incapable of performing any analysis of a situation, and must be spoon-fed not only the problem, but the development of the solution, the method of implementation, and all testing. The amount of throughput is minimal. The amount of overhead required to manage them puts undo burden on those remaining US-based workers, who have their own work to complete. Even when provided step-by-step instructions on how to complete a task, they cannot be trusted to follow them each and every time. It's so frustrating upper management hasn't seemed to learn a thing over the past 5 or 6 years, and is in fact doubling down on their plans to offshore as much of the IT work as possible.

"I feel so bad for our members"

It's no worse now that it has ever been before. UHC is amongst the lowest in satisfaction scores from members and providers. (I am a former employee)

Honestly, I am more concerned that my PHI is visible to folks outside the U.S. and is being sold. You will hear lies about it being protected, but it's not. The rules are lax and the controls even more lax.

As a former Engineering leader, I can't tell you the number of times I had indirect employees (in OTI...) showing Social Security numbers in support calls. I just stopped going to them, since mentioning those lapses only got me chastised by the VPs above me.

Most talented/credentialed grade 29 and below in the US will likely leave by the end of 1st qtr. This place is outright hostile to people wanting to utilize common sense. The leadership in Optum Tech are just not technical, they are completely clueless to what it takes to run a tech organization. The hugest problem right now is that they think AI or to be specific MS Copilot is the solution vs in reality, a tool. Nobody is doing real work anymore, it’s just moonshot projects for our Sr Directors or VPs in order to get them noticed and so they seem like they are doing something. Nothing is done for the good of the enterprise anymore, zero communication, zero regard for resources.

Goal is 70% to 75% offshore. And they are awful, they do not follow procedures and they make their own rules and the developers are terrible. It’s gonna bite them in the butt but we will all be gone by then I’m sure.

Not a good place for onshore, caucasian employees.

They already don’t hire software engineers in the US anymore. For some reason they think low skilled contractors in India + AI = super programmers. This will save them money in the short term but will be devastating in a few years.

What a foolish strategy that will be. I feel so bad for our members. Unless their company pays up for “advocates” they’ll just be stuck begging for help from offshore people. And the problems will never be fixed by someone who doesn’t have to live under our retched system of healthcare.
