Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

I hate this is happening

It’s not that I’ve been super happy working here. But I’m terrified of losing a job. I’ve been looking for another job for a while, and it really doesn’t look good out there. But beggars can’t be choosers. If I’m goner this round, I’ll just have to accept any offer that comes my way. There are bills to pay, and they are not small.

Life after Intel is good. The job market is tight but keep working on finding a new job. If you get let go make sure to take care of yourself and family, get out of the house even if it’s just for a walk or going to the park. Those are free. It will be stressful but have a plan. Good luck!

I know what you mean OP. A lot of people will say "if you're not happy, just get another job" and "if you work hard you have nothing to worry about." For some people, the stability is important, especially with kids. And I think we all know that Intel hasn't been a meritocracy for a long time.

I was CPM'd in the first wave, and while it was scary at first, once I was out, I was much happier. It's like leaving a toxic relationship. It's scary to think about being single again unless you actually rip off the band-aid. Once they're out of your life, you can breathe again.

I know it's different when we're talking about jobs, but I just wanted to share the experience of someone who wound up happier on the other side of all these layoffs. Remember, "this too shall pass."

If Intel is bought there will be more layoffs and consolidation. My advice - be the first to aggressively look in other states for jobs. Or stay in denial that you can stay in California, Oregon or Arizona and compete for TSMC jobs with 17000 other Intel reduction in force. AMD and NY isn’t that bad compared to hanging on here.

Yup and a lot less compensation. It’s supply and demand and there will be a ton of us applying to the same 4 -5 positions out there.

If you get a job offer be prepared to work from the office more often than not. Realize the WFH gravy train is about over and adjust your mind.

Many recruits won’t touch us with a ten foot pole. We are very hard to place. And now there is 7000 of us out there looking. We are radioactive.

There are a lot of talent at Intel and recruiters know this. Have some faith. It could be that you didn't get offers earlier due to the fact you were not that desperate and did not appear too eager in interviews. Granted it will be hard to get a job now but not impossible. There are a lot of startups out there that need the expertise from somebody like yourself with experience from an established tech firm. You will really need to sell yourself harder than ever though.

In your job search keep your eyes open on job ads in newspapers. Before a company can file for green cards for their foreign workers they have a legal requirement to place the job opening in a local newspaper for two weeks. This is called a PERM ad.

Meta and Apple got fined by the Department of Justice for placing fake PERM ads, so if you apply to these ads and don't hear back you can report them to the Department of Justice and maybe receive an award. In the process you get to cut off Migrant applicants from taking US jobs.

Insightful and thoughtful post. But there is a stigma. Prior to this recent flurry of activity we all personally know several people quietly trying to leave. How many actually were successful? Now increase that number to 7000+. Sure some here and there will find something. But for vast majority it will be extremely difficult. Myself included. It is disingenuous to say there isn’t a stigma when in reality there is. And unfortunately it stains even the best hardest working employees who are great at their jobs.

If you did your job well and you have projects near wafer you should be ok.

From the picture I can see that this round should look different than in 2016. Low performance should go away, the only thing I cannot understand is that why they offer VSP before - It should be other way around ISP all low performance then let VSP/retirement packages and ISP to the limits.

I am worried that’s brain drain will damage everything and we will not be able to execute any longer and next year we will have pay cuts, no APB, next layoffs.

Get rid of slackers, close unnecessary projects and maybe - just maybe we should be ok. I hope that morale improves soon, otherwise we won’t have any chances.

I am considering VSP, 20 years of experience will go away. Free weekend hours to deliver will go away. On Thursday I lost faith into CEO. Foundry is the way, but only when you can execute. And as I read on this board - Intel is not an end of the world, people commuting everyday to job. There is no Intel stigma - if you are good in your job you will get another.

USA based. There are plenty of job openings. But maybe fake “ghost” posts. He-l we have some up right now. Also Intel stigma. Many companies will not hire a former Intel personnel.

Even intel’s pay is not in the upper band of the industry, it’s still hard to find a comparable offer in this market.

Yea this su-ks. Same boat OP. I see all the rhetoric and BS on here. But really I am super stressed about paying bills and maintaining quality of life my family is used too. It’s not looking good.

Yes this will be hard on many people not even close to retirement age who need to continue supporting a family. I wish you all the best of luck in this terrible job market. Start working your network, it seems like knowing people is the best way to get a real job lead now.
