Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Can we trust anything that MW and ELT tell us?

It is now painfully obvious that the timeline that MW communicated at the SR Townhall will not be honored. It’s also obvious that he already knew what was going to happen with layoffs. So he flat out lied, right? Does anyone see it differently, and if so please explain your thinking.

MN basically lied through his pearly white choppers when asked about changes to the hybrid schedule a couple months ago.

A plan is only valid that the day it was written.

Chevron had multiple issues they needed to resolve (closing SR, trimming headcount, shifting work abroad). Would you have preferred they had deferred providing SR notice until they'd completed their other studies?

I find the bickering a bit funny. Most companies would provide limited notice and tight transition timelines (E.g., layoffs happen Monday, office is closing in 6 months, etc.). Chevron should be commended for providing advanced (albeit imperfect) notice. Yet you choose to criticize instead.

Transparency is a word they throw around but doesn’t really exist.

99% of our frens in SR could have left the company years ago and nobody would have noticed. Cut and cope. Let’s go TX.

Reading these posts makes me wonder how much undiagnosed (certainly untreated) mental illness exists in our workforce. Some of you seriously need a brain checkup and soon, based on your comments. Also, WTF does being based in SR and questioning how the communications are being mishandled have to do with WFH or having a good work ethic? Being a Houston worker doesn’t make you any better than those of us in SR, who I assure you are working our as--s off in very stressful circumstances, given the lack of reliable information about the timing of moves. How would you feel if you were in our shoes, trying to arrange for your kids to move and figure out whether to also move your in-laws, and when to put your home on the market, etc? All we are asking for is transparent and accurate communication. Jesus!!

Yes, @1oes and they should have. Easy way to get rid of the deadwood so that the people who are actually here to work can get on with their jobs. If you hired on to sit at home and play video games or do chores and pretend wfh then sayonara.

They could have handled this move in 4 weeks. Pack up your office, load the trucks, ship everything physical we need to Houston. No space available in the twin towers at LA and Smith; rent temporary space. Sit down in your new office and go to work. Don't want to move, so sorry you are fired. Simple, fast and easy.

What you just described is MW’s legacy. He and his obedient followers have managed to wreck our company culture. I’m not suggesting that things were perfect before, but I have never felt the ick that I feel when I look at our ELT now and what they’re doing. I would tell them to be ashamed of their actions, but that would assume that they have a conscience, and I think we can all agree that that is not the case.

Why would anyone want to come work for Chevron anymore? I hear constant complaints about not being able to find interns or that so many don’t make it through Horizons before leaving. From the “blue bloods” there is an expectation of culling every 6 years or so. Chevron isn’t my 1st (or 4th) company, but damn I’ve never felt the sense of doom and insecurity that I get here….especially in a relatively good market. It is insane!

Don't they realize that the layoffs are destroying a brand image built up over decades, that these decisions mean they won't be able to attract or retain talent, that they're sacrificing the long term good of the company for quarterly targets? We're following the same id--tic playbook as GE & Boeing.

Let's see. MW is nothing more than a corporate politician. What do you think?

Keep in mind two weeks prior to announcing layoffs in 2020 management stated there would be no layoffs.

I think the end game for San Ramon is to be out by end of 2028. The story told in August was to get as many people to leave before they finalized the plans. They know most in San Ramon will not move to Houston. They need to restructure as many positions moving overseas, so they are making up stories and timelines going into 2025 for 2026-2028 implementation. I don’t think they had a plan when they dropped the news. They want us to quit. The environment is no longer hospitable. We all will do what is best for our situation until it gets sorted out. Very frustrating.
