Thread regarding Citrix Systems Inc. layoffs

What percentage are they aiming for?

There's got to be some number they have thought of that's the ideal number of employees for them. I wish they would communicate either that or the percentage of employees they plan to cut. I know it doesn't make a lot of difference to some whether we know or not, but I hate being kept in the dark.

One way to look at this is simply by doing some math on office space. For example, Santa Clara will be the only remaining office in the Bay Area. If you count the number of desks and compare them to the number of employees, you get a rough indication. October 18 will only be the first wave. Also, if you are too far away from one of the remaining offices, your job is at risk at one of the following layoffs.

What difference does it make on how many they cut? How do you know you're above the cutline or below the cutline? Unless you're upper management stealing money with a getaway "failure" package, you'll always suffer anguish from not knowing NOW and the NEXT layoffs. Not IF but WHEN. Best to move on.

I promise you that October 18th will be one of the cut dates. I don’t know how many on that specific date, but I expect it to be in the hundreds. My assumption is there will be a couple of them, and I think 10/18 will be the first.

In terms of who, or how many, look over the new org chart. If your branch is unidentified, or radically changed, then you can reasonably assume your team will take a massive casualty count.

@ier+1j5GLwsn Really? Because they have released to the press exactly that.

They have publicly said that they will be cutting 955 total staff. 450 from Marketing alone.

I am sure there will be other redundant roles as they move through the process. But stop trying fear monger. The numbers have been reported on.

In the hackernews thread here: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=33040873 one comment was that the combine company TIBCO + Citrix will have 15k employees and they'll bring that number down to 10k.

It's a combination of a couple of factors. One, TK/Vista wants a certain projected profit, and part of that means getting expenses down to certain levels. That's the high level. On a lower level, each BU will have to justify every headcount. Based on the direction they are going, there will be a lot of jobs that simply aren't needed anymore, or will be phased out.

They are never going to come out and say "We plan to fire 2000 people over the next two years", or whatever their estimate is. I know it's terrible to wait, but we're getting closer. November 30 is the line in the sand.
