Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Where do you see yourself? Time is Precious

I’ve worked with some amazing people at T. I personally know some folks that worked countless hours around the clock just to get things done or worked extra hours / projects to impress their boss to get a “Far Exceeds” on A&Ds. Why do we continue to over exert ourselves when we are just a number to the company? Is it self gratification ? Are we really working for our families to maintain a certain lifestyle ? I personally know some folks that missed important life events with their children, missed precious family moments , you can never take that time back. Where do you see yourself ? 40 years with the company and still a level 1 or a technician? With the maximum of 6% raises every year? It’s bogus! Your worth more than that. Time is precious and don’t waste your time on T. Take all the training that you can receive here and go to a different company that will appreciate your efforts and encourage work/life balance or build your own business . You can do it!

I really woke up from last year meeting people that worked for the company for 40 years and still a level 1. I was thinking to myself they should be a director or VP .. something more than that with 40+ years of service . I also met people that were laid off after 25 years of service and them feeling lost in the world. I don’t want that to happen to anyone. Keep re-tooling yourself and equipped you and your family with anything and everything to survive . There’s life after T and don’t waste any time.

I used to kill myself for AT&T. I worked every weekend for 10 years....never took vacation...was on call 24/7. It was awful. I rarely got more than a 3 on my reviews anyway.

I volunteered for severance in August 2017. Now I have a job where I manage more people, get paid 3 times as much, and work way less.

I often wonder why I wasted my time at AT&T..

Just because someone has been with the company for decades does not mean that they should hold a senior management or officer level position. There are a lot of dummies that have been here a long time...sorry to say, but absolutely true.

No. It's called liberty! In this country we choose how we spend our labor. The problem is not with T although there are plenty of issues to discuss there. The problem is with how we were taught--the lack of education delivered to us in public schools; most Americans do not know, and /or how to exercise our God given rights as individuals. Too many times we as Americans buy into the "greater good" concept at the expense of our liberty, furthermore, we become trapped by our own philosophical ideas that are foreign to the founding principles of our nation. Liberty says if you want to kill yourself working too hard, you can do that. But wouldn't that be better than using your liberty to be lazy? Choose your path, but do it exercising your liberty.

Some people do not aspire to progress. I know quite a few that I work with that have been with the company since divestiture in 84, and are still MU's. It's either a choice, or they have gone as far as they're capable.
