Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

I have 10 more days in PIP but I want to quit.

My boss told me that I will pass PIP, but at this time I want to quit anyway.

Should I wait till the PIP is over and then turn in the resignation letter?

I thought about quitting immediately but I don't want that the company terminate my employment with an excuse that I failed in PIP (the company can do this at anytime during the PIP). I would rather make it clear that I quit on my own terms.

or, is it even possible to switch to PIL this late?

Thanks if you have any suggestions.

Don’t quit. Take another job and tell Exxon you are working from home. Keep your laptop and log in during the day. Eventually they’ll figure out that you quit, but it might take a year or so. They won’t be able to prove when you actually quit, so worst case is they hold your last two weeks pay and tell you to sue them. You won’t sue, but you will get them for several months. When someone schedules an on site meeting, decline due to a dr. Appt , personal business, or vacation day. If the new job isn’t what you were told, you could always quit that job and go back to Exxon. This works as I know of many people who have done this during the last year, and get this, they were ranked good and very good!

I’ve actually heard of a guy in drilling who got another job and just stopped showing up while collecting his check from the company.

Sounds like a solid plan…

The sad truth is that we are so far under headcount due to the “industry comparable” attrition, that any supervisor who doesn’t pass their employee’s PIP deserves to be PIP’d themselves. Resign on your own terms. Continue collecting a paycheck while you find someplace that will value your contributions. Then post a cube selfie on the way out.

Pass PIP, find another job, start working at other job but don't quit Exxon.
Quietly stop showing up to work until someone notices and finally fires you.

Now you get extra double dippings.

Does this seem like a sh---y thing to do? Exxon used you, use Exxon.

You're a mo--n for even asking this question. No wonder you were on a PIP.

Irony of the whole PIP game is the person who initially pipped you is now saying that "they" will let you pass the PIP. Well, that means you never deserved to be pipped but they pipped you anyways and now trying to play God by letting you come out of it? Sounds wicked self serving agenda of your bosses. The singing #WeareExxonMobil continues.

Wait it out. There might be a low key layoff this year or as mentioned, collect 2022 vacation if it doesn't materialize.

@OP Enough suggestions for you? What's your decision?

Pass the PIP, look for another job. If layoff hits you, all the better to collect severance/UI while figuring out 401K rollover, pension, etc. At this time, you should be sane enough to do the math most in your favor.

Resign on Jan 3, 2022 and convert vacation to pay

Just ride it out. That’s what I did. I passed my PIP already but will resign in a couple weeks once I get cleared for the new job I got. You can swap from PIP to PIL anytime after 30 days into the PIP and of course before the 90 day mark. I took the PIP because I thought it will take a while to get a higher paying job. Plus staying until you pass may allow you think clearly about next steps. Once I passed I now felt I had a year to find a job versus just 3 months, makes quite a difference in how you approach things. I wish you the best. I’m leaving but I won’t lie, the whole thing is bittersweet for me.

@OP Take the pass and use the next few months to land another job.

EM uses you, so use them too. Fair is fair.

Just Man-Up and ride it out. You were given a choice and you chose the PIP. Own it.

Suggest you stay until Jan. If you quit then you get 2022 vacation payout

PIL would be waste because I don’t think they’d give you another 3 months of pay, at that point I’d just stay until I found another job
