Thread regarding Medtronic Inc. layoffs

@hy That's too bad, I talked to some of my co-workers about when it was starting be enforced and since it only impacted performance ratings, there wasn't much incentive to be in the office since the difference between a 2 or 3 is a 1-3% raise normally. They were gaining more money by not being in the office.

@ep Be a grown up, tell your colleague that you are swamped and need to focus.

@h0 I don’t think pushing people out is the only reason. I am sure there are many flavors of how the 3-day workweek went but in our org, there were people that couldn’t even come in for one or two days; utter lack of compliance. Why managers didn’t enforce, I don’t know but I think this RTO is more about getting a full 8hrs of work out of people. It su-ks because there are a lot of productive remote employees, it’s a shame they get punished because the few couldn’t give the full 8hrs.

The shift from 3 days to 4 days is all about making people quit right?

It's not worth the cost of gas and the wear and tear on your cars. Medtronic isn't going to compensate for those.

One of my coworkers stops by my cube ~5 times a day to talk. My cube neighbors are annoyed. I’m annoyed. I’ve fallen behind on work with these constant interruptions, but if ExComm says this is better than us having one additional productive WFH day, I won’t stress the missed deadlines

Is anyone getting nasty emails about their lack of attendence in the office? Frequency or duration? Or their bosses are on their case about it? I'm curious.

RTO mandate is making it hard. Truly Hard to focus and work in the office when you have cubicle mates that talk on Teams call all day and have no inside voice or social awareness. So much so brown noise on youtube and noise cancellation headphones are now my life saver. Gosh I miss WFH!

It depends on your manager. Mine doesn’t care if we don’t come in 4 days a week right now

RTO makes zero sense when you’re the only one on your team who isn’t remote. Zero in-person collaboration while they sit at home. Make it make sense.

While it's super nice of them to offer, I'm going to go ahead and remain fully remote for the indefinite future. But you all have a blast with that.

Do a little cross-functional collaboration, spontaneous corridor conversation, and company culture reinforcement for me.

RTO will be updated to 5 days a week so that people will voluntary leave.
